You can (if he fit in the slot and he does not fit) but why in hell would you..even for 2 or 3 first rounders? You are on the hook for his entire contract and it counts against the cap...You only do something like that for an expiring contract or MAYBE one that ends the next year. Unless you really want the guy, you don't just take on salary to get a high pick if that deal is longer than a year or two.

I don't see how this is news...anyone who thought he would sign any kind of extension is crazy. It makes zero financial sense to sign one (unless you think you are hurt and cant come back from it..). I never once thought he would and he would be stupid to do so. The NBA screwed themselves with this rule. The current team should be able to sign their own free agents to extensions that don't punish the player financially for signing early. It should be just as if they went to free agency and signed.

To be honest, I still think he will end up there. Eventually he is going to realize the BK isn't an option any longer and will have to cave in. His options will shrink and he may end up someplace he doesn't want to be.
