Okay...so let's play the "try not to get your hopes up...while also kinda getting your hopes up" game

IF everyone is healthy (or near 100%) what is the best starting 5 that we can imagine for this season? Maybe go 3-4 deep on the bench to imagine a playoff scenario too.

    I would say:

    Fultz, Fournier, Isaac, Gordon, Vuc

    MCW, Ross, Aminu, Bamba

    That's still leaving off Iwundu/Augustin/Birch

Do we feel like this team can be a 3-4 seed in the East?

DJ isn’t on the team anymore?

Bit of a weird angle, and not that I think it's true, but do you think there is any chance the FO actually viewed Okeke's injury as a positive? It seems we are trying to build on last season and come back hard with the same group and not having to blood another rookie would be good for our overall record (as pointed out a while back, rookies very rarely contribute to wins).

I hope it wasn't a reason we actually passed on NAW after every mock had us taking him. I think we got a really good player in Okeke so I'm not too fussed but it was just something I was thinking this morning.

I mean it’s not like whenever we drafted at 16 was gonna come in right away, start and play of ton of minutes. So I don’t think him being injured was really an issue to them (though I probably wouldn’t say it was a positive).

Okeke has pressure because NAW, as most on here thought, looks legit. Yes, it’s just summer league—but what are you gonna say when it’s the regular season? There’s a reason a lot of people on here wanted him. Idk why it would be a shock or surprise that he succeeds in the NBA.

If we had someone in SL right now averaging 28 a game and draining every shot from deep we’d be beyond hyped about it even if it was just SL.

I’m a wait and see guy on Markell.

I mean everyone is. No one can make a definitive statement on him. But for Butler to go out of his way to make comments like this has to carry some weight. Idk why he would put himself out there like that if he didn’t actually like what he saw from Fultz.

Summer league doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what Bamba does against centers that aren't playing in the NBA next year. Playing in these types of tournaments just takes up time he could be using to do something else. Just because you're not physically watching him doesn't mean he's not working on his game. You don't have any information. You don't know if he was invited to work out with Isaac and Gordon. You don't know if embiid grabbed him to workout together. You're just complaining that you don't get to watch him take spot up threes against Chris Silva.

This would all be fine and true if the Magic weren’t equally as over cautious in the regular season too. It’s not just a summer league thing. If a guy goes out with a limp on our team we all know damn well he’s missing time. Doesn’t matter if it’s summer league or regular season or whatever else.

Aren’t yo supposed to be sore after working out and playing a game after a lay-off? Geezus this is ridiculous. This new generation is a bunch of pu***s

Agree but it’s kind of in line with how the Magic have managed injuries (or lack thereof) for years now. If someone on this team has a bruise you best believe they are sitting out for at least a game.

I feel like we spend too much time trying to find a reason for the Fultz trade to work. Kinda like we talked ourselves into liking the Ibaka trade when it happened.

The Futlz  trade made much more sense but it's really just a lotto ticket. The Ibaka trade made no sense but damn did we come up with all sorts of reasons it might work.

If Fultz is a lotto ticket i wish we would have hedged our bet a little more. Can't we find a Cory Joseph or a Derrick white?

Delon Wright fits everything we are trying to build here yet we never made a move on him for the past 2 years when he was beyond attainable.

We’d rather sign another versatile forward who can’t shoot consistently.

Show me the last team that won with average defense

None of the teams that are winning are total defensive juggernauts. The warriors play defense but they still give up a ton of points and always have.

All of the teams that are winning have a superstar (with the exception of Toronto, all more then 1), and can score way more points then our current lineup every projects to be able to do.

The Mavericks were probably the last team to even be close to a non superstar team winning. But Dirk was still elite then.

Still waiting on how my original post was not true at all.

Superstar teams win. Defense isn’t as valuable as it was 10 years ago. The pistons played great defense but they have 3 guys that could still create their own offense and score consistently.

    Thats not untrue.

Do you think a team this year is going to win that isn’t a superstar team? If you do, I’ll get you the Vegas odds and you can make some good money.

Have you ever thought that they didn't make a backcourt move because they have had six months to evaluate Fultz and it made them confident they didn't need to make another backcourt move?

How would they be that confident in a guy that hasn’t even been cleared to play against 4 other players yet?

That team is a very hard team to duplicate.   Much harder than any other model.

Also you can’t really win like that in 2019. If you can’t score you don’t win. With the way the game is officiated defense is, for lack of a better term, overrated. You still have to be able to play it but building a team around the thought of “we’ll be elite defensively” isn’t really a winning formula for today’s game.

Im also not sure we ever see a team again that wins without a superstar. We are living in the day of the superstar team. You aren’t winning with just a bunch of guys. Also, Detroit wasn’t a bunch of gritty nobodies. They had some players that were damn good on both ends of the floor.
