  1. It’s hard for a front office to make mistakes when they sit on ass year in and year out.

Why 3 years post-Hennigan does this team still revolve around Hennigan guys? Why do we continue to align ourselves with mediocrity?

Drafting JI and the Fultz trade are the loan good moves.

Giving Vuc a 4 year deal was all time stupid BTW. Can’t wait to see us lock Fournier up. That’ll be the nail in the coffin.

Maybe we’re still “evaluating the roster”.

Again my assessment was our FO has now idea what to do with a 2nd round pick unless they are trading Ennis away

Their handling of any pic outside of their first pick each year is abysmal.

Let us not forget when the draft “flattened out” when Kuzma went 2 picks later.

I remember being told Weltman and Hammond thrived at identifying talent. That’s proven to be anything but their strength here. Not really sure how they keep getting passes.

Well I guess last year’s run was a fluke. We are in the worst place to be in the NBA; very average! We won’t get a impactful draft pick and barely if at all make the playoffs in a weak East. This is the epitome of Ground Hog Day. It’s hard to watch this year in and year out; do something please!  We watch the Heat, Celtics, Pacers among others rebuild while we suck eggs year after year.

This is why I had to peace out the past 8 months or so. I couldn’t believe the amount of fans that were excited and happy with our moves. Vuc and Ross both were in contract years and played like it.That was complete fools gold and people ate it up. I get we were in the midst of a playoff drought so people were naturally excited but anyone with some forward thinking could tell our team still lacked to much talent overall.

It was so obvious to me all we did was lock ourselves into mediocrity. 7-8 seed for the foreseeable future which like you stated is actually the worse place to be.

But the FO was getting pressure from fans and probably ownership that we had to keep our “first all star since Dwight” and build off our playoff run.

This team was not skilled enough to make the moves we did last summer. We still need a good young piece. Should have let Vuc and Ross walk and focused on adding another prospect to go with JI and Fultz (Bamba too if you’re a believer).

Locking up a roster that won 42 games and probably overachieved in doing so wasn’t the smart play. The Aminu signing was laughable too.

  4. AG for Gary Harris.

Both slightly overpaid but near identical contracts. Harris would bring a pure shooting guard to the starting lineup and should help out quite a bit in our half court sets. He’s still a solid defender too.

    Fultz/Harris/Fournier/JI/Vuc

Or maybe you start Aminu and bring Fournier off the bench. Ideally Okeke has started potential next year.

Not great by any stretch but it’s a start.

  5. Lol.

The fans that were content with the off-season where we did nothing but bring every player back on a 42 win team that probably overachieved now appear to be not so content. Oh wait, nvm we gave a multi year deal to another combo forward who can’t shoot.

I’m not saying I’m happy this is happening but it is reassuring knowing how predictable this season was.

Its still a 40 win team. Idk why people would have expected much more than that.

The guy that is unplayable when his shots aren't falling is Vooch. His defense, especially his help defense, looks awful this year. He's being targeted repeatedly to start games. I really hope that contract doesn't come back to bite the Magic in the tush.

    It already has.

That deal alone has completely caused me to question why I invest so much time and money into this organization. It’s why I’m rarely on or posting to this forum. I like to keep my negativity away but sometimes I can’t help it.

It was a desperate deal to appease casual fans and keep our “all star” around and be able to make the playoffs as a 6-8 seed for the foreseeable future.

I’ll never under any circumstance understand why we had to do the 4 years. Absolutely won’t get it. If you want to overpay for a 1-2 year deal while Bamba develops then fine. But 4 years was absolutely inexcusable and one of the more nearsighted moves I can remember.

Vuc duped everyone and I remember saying it all last year and all off-season. He has spike seasons in contract years. He will go back to what he’s always been this season.

Sorry to bring the negative energy but it just infuriates me.

Waiting a year and then starting his contract can be a very good thing for Okeke.

Players want to put the best 3 'first' seasons together to get the biggest first contract possible.

Delaying the start to these first seasons means Okeke can use our training facilities, staff, train with NBA players and play on our G League roster this season and be primed and ready to go next season for his 'rookie' season.

He effectively will have 1 extra season to get to his best to get the biggest contract he can.

I think this deal works for players that are super confident they will heal and get back to their best basketball, and are confident that that basketball will be valuable to a team going forward.

This is terrible for players and that’s why we never have seen a player go this route. You want to start your first contract to get to your bigger second contract. He essentially doesn’t have a job now. A lot can happen in a year. As a player you need to get pen to paper and secure your finances.

  8. Thanks for that explanation P4TW.

I see so little to gain from his perspective to not sign now. He’s hurt. What if he has a setback or a career ending injury? A freak car accident? Anything could happen. I would want to sign and get my money as soon as possible.

This is super strange to me. Not sure why a media member can’t just ask management.

  9. Can someone explain to me what that Smith guys tweet means?

Why TF would okeke agree to not sign and take a “redshirt”? So he stays jobless and hurt this season?

Do nba teams have an obligation to sign draft picks before a certain date in order to retain their rights?

If I’m Okeke I’m not on board with any of this and it doesn’t seem like it would be possible under any bargaining agreement. I feel like if we just refuse to sign him he should be free to sign with any nba team he wants.

I need a detailed explanation because this doesn’t seem reasonable.
