God don't remind me. If we had jones right now instead of Nicholson and we hit on our 2 draft picks this year we would be looking so damn good. At least Quinn being a steal in the second eases the pain of nicholsons terribleness.

Otto Porter was bad but I'm not one to write a guy off after just one season. Based off of that, Redick would have been a terrible pick. I guess if you're gonna call a guy the safest pick in the draft he should produce better than Porter, but still. As far as "safe" pick goes this year, I would say Jabari Parker is the only guy I can feel 100% confident in saying he's going to be a good NBA player. Everyone else to me has their flags, either big or small. I would call Smart a safe player as well. Does not have the ceiling as a guy like Exum but probably not the floor either.

That's why I've got myself back on the smart train because Rob has given me no reason not to trust his judgement and he clearly loves him some Smart, and fit wise I think it's great with him and Vic although some would argue that. I'm a big Hood guy but I also like McBuckets. Both fit a need at 12. I personally like McDermott. That shot is pure gold. Over 45% from the three point line doesn't happen that often. He's a better athlete then people think and actually has a better vert than Hood. I think he will be gone by 12 anyways though.

Yea I think we could have found a place for Rondo, Batum, Ibaka, Jordan or Dragic. But I guess drafting for team needs and getting a much inferior player works too.

Your obviously referring to me so let me break this one down. First of all, the only person conceited is you. I never once have said that Smart is going to be much better than Exum or anything of the sort. I have clearly stated that I just think that Rob really likes Smart and that he must do so for a reason so I've tried to point out some of those reasons. Exum very well may end up the better pro, I never once said he wouldn't. Conceited is those who can't live with Anyone other than Exum. You are the ones that already have your mind made up on whom you want. There are 4 players at 4 I would be happy with and Exum is one of them. I personally like the idea of Vic and Smart, but again that is just my personal opinion. Many people can't handle that opinion because they feel Exum is in another class for one reason or another. Second of all, wanting to draft someone so you can make a poster on a forum, a person you'll never meet or know ever, eat crow, is pretty lame.

And thanks for doing so. But really, it wasn't. But when I get put on blast for saying something, obviously hearing that we're bringing Smart in for a second workout makes me feel good. And apparently makes the majority of the members here feel bad. Especially those who have Exum photos on their Sig. Any Penn State players getting drafted this year?

It was directed towards Mauero. He'll be throwing something my way soon. I would love to trade up from 12 to get him my only concern with that strategy is that if Rob has felt now for 2 years that Smart was his guy for this team, do you really think he risks trying to trade up and possibly miss out on him? It's funny how upset people get when you bring up smart. I for one have no clue if he will better than Exum. I also have no idea if Exum will be better than Smart. I personally feel much more confident in the guy that Rob chooses for this team considering he's done more than watch YouTube videos and read up on mock draft websites about who we should take. Which is all me or any of you have done. Where are all the members that loved Smart a year ago? Your dreams may becoming true.

I called Smart couple of days ago. Took a beating for it too. My question is, and this goes to mainly the poster from Portugal who said "glad your not the GM" and those who liked it, how does your opinions of Rob change if he selects Smart over your man crush Exum at 4?

Exactly 100% correct. That's the annoying thing with a lot of posters on here. If someone says something that goes against anything that is seen as the "general consensus", that person gets blasted. The whole point to this forum and what is fun about it is that no one really knows anything, thus making no one right or wrong. Good Ole' debate is good. The stupid one liners shooting someone's view on what they think the Magic might do, ruins it. I think we can all agree that this draft is a huge step for this organization. Even just assuming we stay pat and pick at 4 and 12, this draft could either set us up to be one of the best young teams in the league, or, if we flop, could set us back 2-3 more years. Glad I am not GM.

I'm with you Murphy. I actually see Randle as a much safer player and I think he will be a double double machine. He's just not sexy enough for people on here to get behind him. Exum could be an all-star or he could easily be the guy we look at 5 years from now and he's the Darko Millicic of the draft. Complete bust next to multiple all stars. Not to say I would want Randle at 4 over everyone else but I wouldn't freak out if he was our pick either. If we get another lottery pick I wouldn't mind him at all.

Some were saying that with Smart and Oladipo Orlando would be the worse shooting front-court in the league. Because Exum has such a better stroke and is a proven shooter.

This is the way I feel too. That's why I'm not going to run off a cliff if Rob decides to select Smart over Exum. There are pros and cons to each guy. I don't think it is as clear cut as everyone is making it seem, blasphemous I know.

No doubt. But best defensive back court in the league. And I like Vic's shot. It didn't go in a whole hell of a lot this year but form looks good. I think he improves his shot drastically the next year or two. As for Smart, I just have a felling Rob still really likes him. I don't know how we can just assume he's gonna take Exum over Smart. Smart did a lot of good things last year against a lot of great competition. I know I'm way in the minority on here but Smart is way more of a sure thing than Exum is. Not saying he will be better but way less bust potential and also just mentally preparing myself for if it does happen.

Smart next to Dipo. Gordon next to Vuc.

Gordon at 4 would me a monstrous let down IMO. If we could get him with our later pick or if we trade up and select him that would be fine, but at 4 that would be a travesty. I'd take Smart/Exum/Randle/Vonleh all a head of Gordon and wouldn't think twice about it.

I really like the talent in this draft from the 8-16 range. I think there are plenty of guys that are going to be good-to-really good NBA players. James Young, McDermott, Stauskas, Gary Harris, Hood, Payne, LaVine, Ennis, Saric, T.J. Warren. I think all of these guys have the potential to have really solid NBA careers. Not saying they'll all be perennial all-stars but guys that I think will be good enough that we will look back on this draft and say "2014 was a deep draft with a lot of good middle-round talent".
