Every GM is going to have different players grouped into different tiers. For all we know Rob may have Exum ranked 3rd tier. He just as well may have him ranked first tier. Different strokes for different folks.

I can't stand Nicholson either. I have never seen anyone with slower feet in my life. He is a liability on defense and the 3 point experiment was a disaster. His rebounding is a joke and he gets downright bullied on the block. That being said, I don't mind him as the 8th-9th best player on our team because he can be crafty in the post at times but whenever he has to play extended minutes I find myself pulling my hair out.

Honestly his release reminds me a ton of a guy already on our team—Harkless.

It does make sense to go PF at 4. Like it's been stated, PF drop off is huge in this draft. Still good point guard prospects at 12 to be had. I really don't know why everyone makes a big deal about him being raw. One could easily say Exum will be just as much of a project. Vonleh screams a better defensive version of Chris Bosh.

If someone gives Bledsoe a max contract, that's their own fault. He's a 9-11 mil guy, maybe he gets 12. I would be fine going after him or Reggie Jackson but I do not know if we are at the stage of the process yet where Rob will be looking to spend, especially when he can get his PG in the draft for cheap.

I would agree and say it is far less risky to select a guard (Exum or Smart) and pair them with Vic and immediately have our back court set. If you take Vonleh or Gordon, to me, you are taking more of a risk. That's not to say it may not be a risk worth taking. On the contrary, you could say that we could still find a good PG prospect at 12 (Ennis, Lavine, Payton). But I do not think you can say the same about the PF position because after Vonleh, Randle and Gordon it really becomes slim pickens.

I would be all over McDermott if he falls to 12. He can play some 3 and 4 and I think will be a great 6th man type player off the bench. I don't see him falling to 12 though. I think he is a better more offensively gifted version of Kyle Korver and there is nothing wrong with getting a player like that at 12.

I would (unlike most on here) not flame someone for their opinion off of a scenario that asks for peoples opinions. I'd go: Wiggins Embid Parker Exum I'm not as in love with Exum as most, but I do love that first step of his.

Sounds good to me. Than we can draft Gordon/Vonleh and still grab a wing at 12.

Hah. No, I could care less about Fran. I got over him standing me up....took years. But being how I feel that this team is semi-close to becoming a really fun and competitive team to watch I would rather see a player dressed up in our uniform next season contributing to our 35 wins.

If we were to trade AA, our roster literally has plenty of room on it for 3 first round picks to come in and play. Again, I will take anyone at 9 over Price, Maxiell, Nicholson, Moore and Lamb. I get the concept of a good team like the Spurs or Thunder stashing players, not so much with teams that cannot reach 25 wins. Plenty of PT to go around in Orlando.

Saric has made no commitment to come over and play. I would not mind "stashing" a guy for a year, but I'll pass on any chance of a guy never coming over to play. And I would argue that there are still "high potential/athleticism" guys available at 9. I agree it makes sense to hold onto Affalo if we plan on pushing for an 8 seed this year though. Edit: Actually, I would mind stashing a player for a year. Mainly because our roster only has 5-6 guys on it i give a **** about.

I like Steve Kyler at times but I just don't see how that logic makes sense. I see 5 "young" guys on this team that I think have potential to be good players (Harris, Harkless, Vic, Vuch and Quinn). I find it hard to believe that Rob would feel that there isn't a player at 9 that would be an improvement over Lamb, Moore or Nicholson. There are a handful of guys at 9 that I think could make us a better team next year. Obviously not one guy that is going to come in and have as big of an impact at Affalo, but I don't see us as a team that has so much "young talent" that we can't take on 3 lottery players in the draft this year. As for stashing talent overseas, again, I will take all the talent we can get on this team now. I don't see how we are in a position to stash a good player overseas and I don't believe that would be our mindset with either of our current 2 picks or if we acquired a third. Again, any player at 9 would be an upgrade over the three players mentioned earlier, and we also are wasting a roster spots with Price and Maxiell. Even if our goal is to win as much as possible next season (which I think it is and should be) the player we get at 9 will be an instant upgrade over Price, Maxiell, Moore, Lamb and Nicholson. I'm sure most of you could name 5 players from the draft you would want to target at 9 and have them be taking up a roster spot over the other 5 guys on our team.

The only one that isn't even close to being passable is Rondo. John Wall was awful but I would say is now "passable" at 35%. Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe fall in that category too. It's funny, most every PG in the NBA shoots at least 36% from the 3 point line.

One scenario we haven't discussed much is trading up from 4. We have beat it to death about the possibilities with trading down, but what would you guys think it would take to get us in the top 2-3? Would you be willing to give up a guy like Harris/Affalo to have a shot at Wiggins/Parker/Embid? I have read multiple articles that say we, above almost any other team, have what it would take to trade up assuming we would want to.

Preach. My thoughts exactly. If we were to somehow make a 8 seed next year, that would in no way put us in "Mediocre Purgatory" for years to come. It's a crazy concept, but 20-24 year old players can actually get better from year to year thus making the team better which in turn would push us up the rankings. Not to mention that developing an atmosphere where losing is not only acceptable but expected, that plays a role on a young mans mindset. I would like these guys to see what a winning culture is like so that they aspire to keep that feeling.

I don't like Randle at 4 by any means, but he is a much better prospect than Big Baby was or ever could aspire to be in a million years.

    2014 Draft Thread

He clearly said in the article when he suggest "trading pick number 4 for a veteran player", that there would be no reason to do that. He was simply laying out any and all possibilities. I would agree a PG would be the more ideal fit but honestly I don't think either exum or smart are tremendous fits with OlaDipo. Neither can shoot and both could be seen more as combo guards. I think based on this draft class most magic fans (me included) want 1 of those 2 but I would never say either are tremendous fits. A tremendous PG fit next to Vic would be one that possesses all the necessary PG traits but could also shoot the ball very well which neither Smart or Exum know how to do.

Exum over Embid and Parker is just funny IMO. We get it, you like him, but let's lay off the Exum juice a bit.

I'm with you on that. But with the players we already have (Vuch, Vic, Harris, Affalo, Harkless, Quinn) and you throw in Exum/Smart with Harris, Stausks or Young, would you be shocked if the team made a 10+ winning jump? I don't see how that team once again wins less than 25 games unless we are purposely trying to again.

    2014 Draft Thread

I think another sub 25 win season would be bad. I personally feel like, given we add a couple good players through the draft, this team should at least win 35 games. 10 more wins doesn't seem like a lot but it gives the fans (mainly the season ticket holders) a reason to get excited and renew for next season. If we have another 20 win year, amway will be empty. Which isn't a huge deal to me but I feel like the talent is in place to win a few more games, it's the coaching that I think will continue to hold this team back in the future. Given we hit on the draft, I don't think an 8 seed in the east is completely out of the question and it's not like that would make us stuck as a mediocre team. We would continue to develop in following years and climb the rankings in the east, kind of like the Pacers did (although now they appear to be stuck). Not saying i expect the playoffs or would be mad if we didn't make it, just saying i don't think it's completely out of the question.
