  1. We agree that in order to be better we need Payton ag and Isaac to step up. We also agree that more attention to detail should be the focus on defense.

I don't see the utility in limiting our best scorer and elevating less efficient scorers to take his shots essentially(i.e. AG). That won't lead to wins. Nik is 26, he's entering his prime, all this 'used to' verbiage suggests he's regressing on some linear scale, he's not. I get that people finally realize that Payton is actually a good player so they must find another scapegoat for our problems. Nik is next in line. He has the ability to do things no one else on our team can do. he's flawed like everyone else on our team, but he is our most underrated player I believe. He should get traded in all honesty but then we're just left with biyombo. There's little practicality in doing that as well.

I expect that as long as he comes back in shape and ready to work that he'll stand to gain the most from an improving point guard. I'm not going to argue your opinions in your post above, I just wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if the team doesn't share the same viewpoint or take action moving in your direction.

If Vooch has added a regular 3 point shot to his game this offseason then maybe it can be different. As of now though, his specialty on offense is the least efficient shot in the NBA.

  2. A number of folks have said basically what Air Gordon said above, which is that the players we've got, with possibly only a minor change or two, will likely be the group we start the season with. Which leads to my second question: We appear to have a bit of a logjam at the 2/3 currently with more people expecting to get time than we have time to give. Fournier, Ross, Simmons, Afflalo, Hezonja, and Iwundu, and even possibly Isaac unless we think Gordon and Isaac will never play together. Even if Iwundu never sees the floor, it's still going to be difficult finding PT for 5-6 guys in two positions, unless we plan to use an 11 man rotation. And we also have a similar problem at PF, with Gordon, Speights and Isaac. Other than Iwundu, I don't think any of the names I listed above are going to be happy with very limited minutes.

How do we handle that issue?

I imagine no minutes for Iwundu and very limited for Mario and Afflalo. I think our main rotation at the 2/3 is Fournier, Ross, Simmons, Isaac, but as was said above me, we also have pieces to make moves. Also, don't see Speights playing a lot of 4.

  3. Pretty quiet on here this time of year so I'll throw out a question, if anyone's interested. Do you think substantive changes are still coming to this roster before the season starts, or is what we see pretty much what we get (not talking about adding a guy at the end of the bench)?

I think we're set. This will be the team we roll with until at least the end of the year and the new signings become tradeable. I think Kyrie gets traded before preseason, but I have no reason to believe that he's coming here.

  4. does it bother anyone else that it seems like people don't understand what mediocre or mediocrity means?

I wish we've been stuck in mediocrity. Mediocrity is the last 4 seasons of charlotte. not a bottom team. an occasional playoff team but not a threat to win anything. no path to good. no path to rebuilding. Mediocre is average.

We've been bad. just bad. We needed to be the worst. We were mediocre for one year since Dwight left, the skiles year. 28 wins isn't mediocre.

Yeah, it bugs me. To me, mediocre in the NBA is 36 - 42 wins and bottom tier of playoffs getting swept. We've been bad, just not the worst. I think the worst part of the rebuild and why there's so much negativity surrounding it for us is that Skiles year you referred to. What a tease.

  5. also. this whole global kyrie discussion is showing how people value Kyrie differently.

on one side you have Bill Simmons suggesting Memphis trade conley and gasol for kyrie. This is the "look at what kyrie does for you in the finals" stance.

But with Kyrie's issues, is he really that more valuable than Conley, Lillard, wall, etc? Maybe in the fourth quarter of a playoff game. but what about during the season?

Was it you who mentioned how abysmal the Cavs record has been with Kyrie and without James? There's no real evidence to support Kyrie can provide wins without significant help.

That being said, I'd still love to land him, he'd be our best player since Dwight.

  6. If that's true Kyrie is acting like a total child.

Unless something happened that we don't know about within the organization I think Kyrie is coming off extremely entitled at this point. I mean it's fine with me cause the more dysfunctional this situation gets the better for us but if he's actually ignoring his employers, who he's under contract with for 2 more years--that's a bad look IMO.

Yeah, makes me nervous about being a team that wasn't on "his list" if he were to get dealt here. I've heard rumors that he's pretty much Knicks or bust as this point. I think it'll be Melo for Kyrie with some filler on both sides

  7. nah I'm pretty sure Cleveland wants Bledsoe.

For all I know we're just the third team in a deal that involves dumping Vucevic or Biyombo. but I just cant believe well respected people say we're still signing Birch and Speights and not making a move.

Yeah, the Speights and Birch signings not being official yet and the strange decision of stretching CJ's 1 million dollar cap hit all point to a trade being made of some sort
