What have we learned so far from the playoffs?

I learned that although Gerald Wallace and Josh Smith are both extremely gifted athletes, Gerald will hustle on every play regardless of the score or how the series is going, and Smith is a quiter.

    Cavs vs Celtics

Cleveland simply does not have the manpower to play a mre well rounded game. The elbow gives him an excuse if they lose. He can say he did everything he could, and it isn't his fault the rest of the team wasn't able to pull their weight. I think it's his master plan to get Mike Brown fired and bring in the coach he really wants. For what it's worth, the Cavs beat reporter who has followed Lebron since high school says there is no chance Lebron is leaving. Of course, that really doesn't mean squat We thought the same thing about Shaq right up until he signed with the Lakers. Fact is the only one who really knows is Lebron. I still can't believe Shaq left, just unprecedented. At least you guys didn't have to hear about the possibility of Shaq leaving from the day he was drafted. Believe me, we did.

Has he said anything that can be considered "trolling"? Nope. I missunderstood his last sentence. Sorry cav guy.

    Cavs vs Celtics

Two games in and I haven't seen any evidence that Cleveland is that much better than Boston. They may outlast the Celtics but so far, they haven't shown anything other than the ability to come back once they let the Celts get ahead, The Cavs spent all their effort trying to match up against Orlando. For them to lose against the Celtics and never get to play Orlando would be so beautiful.

It's all in the marketing plan. The NBA lost $400,000,000 this year, they will try anything. http://www.facebook.com/pages/...Donaghy/190036783555 Not sure how much credibility he has, but read his facebook page. Kind of interesting. Somewhere in there he claims that the Spurs were the safer bet over the Mavericks because Stern will never allow Mark Cuban to get back to the finals, much less win it. Don't miss tomorrow's episode where Casey Anthony gives us parenting tips for Sandra Bullock and Bernie Maddoff will give us his take on the Goldman Sachs scandal.

    Official referee venting thread.

quote: Originally posted by Tough Break There: quote: "What that does is erode fan confidence, and then we get some of the situations that we have." Stern either just doesn't get it or doesn't care. I can't tell which. That article just makes me hate him more. It's not coaches and players saying what we already know that corrodes confidence in the league you arrogant *****. It's years of consistently poor calls, rigged games, crooked refs and a league that just nothing but deny that erodes our confidence in NBA. Instead of fining coaches and players for calling out a system that makes their jobs more difficult, how about you implement an open and honest plan for officiating the league that punishes poor and vindictive refs. A good time to start considering putting a new system into motion might have been, I don't know, when a former referee was caught by the FBI openly gambling on your games. Exactly!!! Who's he kidding. Ref image tarnished by coaches and players complaining to the media? Is he high? The mediocre culture refs have created over the last 30 years of calling it differently for the superstars instead of calling what you see, a corrupt official hinting there's more to the story. Maybe that's whats doing it Sterny. There is another quote from the same Stern talk where he says Jackson and Riley have been playing games in the media for a long time, David, that is a game you are really good at.

I have more respect for Charlotte than I will ever have for Cleveland or Boston. They even know how to complain with style. Even their fan base, unlike Cavalierland, is devoid of any losers trolling on our boards.

    Round 1: (4)Boston vs. (5)Miami

Kevin Garnett is the type of guy that will sucker elbow someone in the face and then run away as fast as he can and not look the guy in the eye when he tries to get back in his face. I predict that when he gets old, he'll be the guy in the neighborhood that won't give the ball back to the kids if it falls in his yard.

I didn't fear Boston as a team that could beat us, I feared Boston because they are such a group of selfish, washed-up crybabies that they will play ugly and dirty before they are eliminated. There is no next year for them and I predict an ugly fight on at least one game before they are sent home. Ok, I predict a second ugly fight before they are sent home.

    Mad and Magic talking...

In only one year, Matt has become one of my favorite Magic players of all time. He's not a trouble maker, but doesn't run away from it either. He doesn't need to shoot, but finds enough times in a game to score off a fast break he instigates from running full throttle or an offensive rebound. Rebound? He's our second best rebounder and the only other one besides Dwigth that can crash the offensive boards and still not get beaten the other way. He's the type of player Championship teams need to have.

NBA's think, know and prove (Bill Simmons)

Premise in 2008/09 season. Orlando is not made up for the playoffs, they rely too much on 3s. Cleveland is the dominant team and should win the Eastern conference. Premise early 2009/10 season. Orlando made too many changes from the team that did so good in the playoffs. Cleveland is the dominant team and should win the Eastern conference.

No Rashard or Ryan Anderson (who had a sprained ankle) and a team with 3 new players in the starting line-up playing their 9th game together. The guy has been doing a great job of rellying on total quantitative data all year long, then reasons his pick on the most absurd of premises. I love his job. How exactly is him not taking into account the Cavs' last few games without LeBron (and for a few most of their starters) absurd??? He said he would not take into account those last few games and he shouldn't... just like he wouldn't do it if we rested Howard/Nelson/Carter for the last few games. I mean yes, the fact that he counted the first game and not the last was a bit out nowhere, but in no way are the two games remotely similar as far as impact. Lewis/Anderson, not even combined, could impact the game as much as LeBron/Shaq would for the Cavs. With that being said, that was hardly the reason why he picked the Cavs. He mentioned before those guys going out how close Cleveland and Orlando were to each other, and from then on it was basically a coin toss, in which his landed for Cleveland... I'm not even sure your are responding to my post. I don't say anything about the last few games without Lebron. Maybe you are answering someone else. I'm not sure. I also didn't have an arguemnt about him counting the first but not the last. I never said that either. My point is that he's basically basing the winner of the "real finals" on one game played in November. Read it again. No, he's basing the winner from his numbers prior to the Cavs resting LeBron... Let me cut and paste my original argument so you can see why I say he's basing it on one game. "So the whole season is boiled down to a November 11 victory by Cleveland. (We split the two in February and the other one "didn't matter")." I know what he's basing it on, I'm striping away the other two in February because we basically split those two games. Neither one is counting the last one for much. there you have it, IN MY OPINION, he's basing the whole series on one game.

Of course, it is totally subjective on my part since the game in over 100 years old and so much of what we remember is from World Cup play. I like the group of posters in this thread and I am curious as to whom you would nominate for this. Who do you think is the best player that ever played but did not play great in their World Cup career.

Records for players and the team itself, All-Star, and probably a few awards going to Dwight. All in all, a very successful season. Though there were some bumps here and there. In your opinion, what was the one major failure of the season? I would have to say it would be not acquiring a late 1st on draft night. After seeing how the draft produced so many quality point guards, and that being a need going into the season, it's disappointing knowing it probably could have been had for pennies. With this upcoming draft being weak at that position and no other glaring needs, it got me thinking that would probably be the only big failure we had. What comes to mind for you? I kind'a enjoyed not having a rookie this year. I'm all for bringing in the young bloods but this was a team recalibrated after losing in the finals, to win the finals and I like how all the effort went into that. I don't remember ever rooting for a team where you had 12 players going into the playoffs, and all of them fall in place like our's do. I know how rotations shrink for the playoffs but the way this team is playing right now, they are just scary. The regular season, at it's most basic descriptive, is a seeding tournament. In that, we only missed one slot. The second significant element of the regular season is to establish the team dynamics that will succeed in the playoffs, I can't think of of stronger team right now heading into the playoffs. Regular Season - no failures.
