    Grade Our Draft

Since I couldn't be happier, I'll give it an A-. Only thing is I'm surprised we didn't try to grab some sort of a big with our second rounder.

Yeah I couldn't agree with Catman more. We all know around here that anyone in the media who pretends to know what Henny is going to do is doing just that.... pretending.

    Should we match for Harris?

Alright, I think it was just lost in translation for a moment. I have a pretty good feeling that that's where Rob's ability to handle the size of the contract ends too. To me, anything 15 per or higher on average just feels like too much for as little as he's done on the defensive end most nights. What a summer..

You're still not getting the original question. It was basically along the lines of, "If YOU were Rob Hennigan..." as opposed to what you thought he himself was prepared/willing to do.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought this. He'd be no worse than Ridnour with his intelligence alone. Also doesn't speak well to our PG position behind Payton.

    Welcome Home Coach Scott Skiles!

Great find. Can I just point out one thing about all the people saying he'll be gone in 3-4 years.. I've realized that's a bit of a cop out b/c 90% of all NBA coaches will be gone in 4 years. So it wouldn't be the weakest limb to go out on, to say that sort of thing about any NBA coach this side of Popovich. One more thing. I think some fans have their head in the clouds and aren't really accepting reality. This is no longer 2009. (The good and young) Dwight Howard isn't walking through that door. Neither is in-their-primes Shaq, Penny, or T-Mac. The truth is we are, by record at least, one of the five worst teams in the NBA. We were not even the most attractive coaching opening, let's get real. We're not Chicago, and we certainly don't have Anthony Davis. Point being, even though of course we have championship aspirations, that's not who we are right now. With the position we're in, we should be thrilled with a coach that has the turn-franchises-around resume as a Scott Skiles. We may have wanted Thibs or Gentry or someone else more, but with Scott Brooks not interested I'd say we made out pretty well. Beggars can't be choosey, and I think us as beggars made out pretty well. At the very least, we should do something unconventional and at least give the guy a chance to fall on his face before we bury him. Besides. Captain obvious here. He's a clear upgrade over our last full time head coach.

    Welcome Home Coach Scott Skiles!

I couldn't agree more. I think it is safe to say that the time off has refreshed him, perhaps we're getting Skiles at just the right time. All I know is pass me the kool aid, b/c I thought his press conference was extremely impressive, at least as much as one of these can be. Alex and Rob seemed genuine to me that this was Rob's decision as well. Unless Rob is the ultimate company guy and both Rob & Alex should think about acting on a professional basis. Also, Skiles bringing the humor a little bit! Post-game press conferences may become must-viewing again. I think the thing with Skiles is, can he stay within himself once the time off wears off, pressures of the job fall on his shoulders again one year in, two years in? We'll have to wait and see on that. My final conclusion on the whole Thibs thing is that Henny got himself so enthralled with the prospect of hiring Skiles, he really didn't think it was worth getting into the Thbs melodrama, waiting out the Bulls to fire him, etc. He was just content with getting Scott. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if Henny would have hired Skiles over Phil Jackson straight up at this point. EDIT: Didn't notice I passed 8000 posts.. and only a few hundred of them spam. :shard:

    Welcome Home Coach Scott Skiles!

This may seem minor but I love how Skiles is all "we" and "our" already. Yes, also love the shout out for JB by Alex.. he deserves it and did a great job for us, considering the circumstances. EDIT: Okay. I'm thrilled with this hire simply based on Scott's reaction Bianchi stepping up to the microphone alone. :shard:

Wow. Kelly Dwyer couldn't come off as a bigger a-hole if he tried in this article.

    Welcome Home Coach Scott Skiles!

Until the way things ended for him in Milwaukee, I was always wondering if Scott Skiles would someday be our head coach. I think every long time fan has wondered the same. I have to think that the Magic at least considered the possibility of Thibs, if he wasn't employed by Chicago, and judge the coaching search that way. I have to think that, right or wrong, the Magic FO would rather have Skiles than Thibs if all things were equal. It also can't hurt that, odds are, Skiles will come cheaper than Thibs. If it works out, Henny is a genius. If not, then the Magic FO have shown their homer-ism again and failed with it. Only time will tell if I should have been careful what I wished for. For now, I'll try to look back at a less pessimistic version of myself, and just be happy that one of my favorite Magic players of all time is the head coach. Hopefully the reality meets the 20-year-old fantasy.

LOL I read the same thing.. I don't know what's more nonsensical.. the article itself, or ESPN quoting opinions and treating them like they are facts: http://espn.go.com/blog/nba/post/_/id/3746/report-why-thibodeau-is-unlikely-to-coach-magic

I'd much rather have Brooks or even Gentry straight up, than Thibs with having to give up a draft pick (even a second rounder). I think they're all close enough that I'd rather "settle" for Brooks and let Henny continue to work his magic (no pun intended) with our draft picks.

I said what I said, I'm not implying that whatsoever. Let me make it simple for you. I think he'll outplay his next contract and provide value where ever he ends up, especially compared to the other free agents.

I didn't mean someone will pay that much for him, I just said he was worth that much. I think he's a 12-14 million dollar a year player (with new cap in mind) that'll probably only get 8-10 million per. I'd be surprised if someone other than the Bucks threw a ton of money at him, who even knows anything about him around the league?

    Official 2015 Offseason Thread

I don't think many people realize how good that guy is outside of Milwaukee. To me he's worth way, WAY more than just 8 million a year, especially with the cap increasing soon. Maybe not more than that to the Bucks though, considering they have to find a way to fit Jabari Parker back in. But if anyone goes after him, he could be the steal/value of all of free agency.

    Should we match for Harris?

Disclaimer: I know nothing about salary increase year after year, but maybe something that shakes out to 70 million over 5 years? He gets the extra year with us, and he averages 14 million a year. Not quite the max, but still not bad considering his glaring lack of defense overall so far in his career. I'd rather it be 11-12 million a year, but somehow I doubt he's coming that cheap unless just no one league wide is interested in the guy. If someone backs up the truck for the guy, as much as I like him I'm just not sure he meshes well enough with Payton & Dipo to make it worth it. The other part of that, of course, is who else would we spend that money on? This is where I get nervous. Henny's made a couple of great trades, and has been fantastic in his drafting values so far, but the jury is still out on him when it comes to free agency.

What Olynyk did does NOT happen all the time. He literally trapped Love's arm with his own right arm.. grabbed Love's wrist with his left hand.. and yanked as hard as he could. You can see it plain as day in the super slo mo replay. I agree with All Eyes On Me with those punishments he said. I wouldn't have a problem with JR Smith being suspended longer at all, I just don't feel like missing two crucial playoff games is the NBA exactly "taking it easy" on him. There's a monster difference between missing two playoff games and the first regular season game. All that being said, I have no reason to disagree with a single word that ~O~ said. Sad as that is. As much as I love the sport of basketball, I hate the NBA sometimes...

Olynyk being suspended anything less than at least three games is a complete and total joke. To me it's completely obvious he was trying to hurt Love. Olynyk had zero chance of getting to that ball. It would have been a serious stretch for even Love to get to the ball. I think the JR Smith suspension is fair.. it's not two random games, it's two playoff games. I think that's harsh but completely fair suspension.
