Well it was reported that the films revealed no structural damage. If this is the case then the diagnoses of "sprain" is accurate and sprains typically, in the shoulder area, can keep an athlete out 1-3 weeks. The tricky issue will be the swelling around the joint. If you've ever seen a football player land a "pointer" (sprain in a joint area) in the hips or shoulders, these things can sometimes keep a guy off the field for 4-6 weeks. Given the lack of direct physical contact with the area, I'd be surprised if he was out the full 3 week norm. Plus Baby strikes me as an aggressive healer.

Also, a full tear does not always necessitate surgery and partial tears could require surgery. We're talking about the possibilities of cartilage death and erosion based on loss of blood flow as a direct result of the labrum being torn, shifted or otherwise jarred. Often times mild dislocations can require surgery as the cartilage has suffered massive trauma even though the dislocation is relatively mild.
