BASS NEWS and Videos: New Article Braking Bass down by Numbers pg30
Tank Vogel replied to Blackhennie's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
The base year compensation part of the collective bargaining agreement wouldn't allow Gortat and Bass to be swapped because of the salary cap. Both teams would have to find a 3rd team under the cap to dump salary to (somewhere between 1.5-2 million), which is near impossible with only 8 players under contract. Also, since Gortat is restricted, if he signs the Mavs offer sheet and the Magic match, he cannot be traded to Dallas for 1 year. -

Another Free Agent everyone is overlooking
Tank Vogel replied to star_phenom35's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
A restricted FA that is being overlooked is Shannon Brown. Lakers have the right to match but they may pay more than they want to for Odom, and add Artest. -
Over half of the league is positioning themselves to have money for next offseason. A ton of players will be overcompensated after the stars sign as teams make desperation moves and try to fill out their rosters. Otis Smith dodged a bullet by not having to commit 5 years to Hedo. Now we will have money in 2 years when nobody else will.

He is a streaky shooter and kind of a black hole on offense. Kind of an Eddie House from the SF position. -
Would rather RDV just take 10 million dollars in singles and light it on fire.

Why Otis can wait and why Cleveland fans will panic.
Tank Vogel replied to MagicFanBen's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
San Antonio, Cleveland, and Boston have 5 dollars. They are going to Subway to get a sandwich. Now there are better sandwiches out there, but for 5 bucks the sandwich will fill them up enough. Otis Smith is taking his 5 bucks to McDonalds and ordering off of the dollar menu. He needs a drink, some fries, a couple of burgers. He can't settle for one sandwich, even though it is healthier for him. Plus he can't spend the full 5 dollars, because he doesn't have enough for the tax. -
So technically we traded Ron Artest for Maurice Evans and Brian Cook, if you use ridiculous logic.

I say we sign John Salley and Lou Diamond Phillips.

That would be the worst foul shooting front line in the history of the world.

So are you comparing Marcin Gortat to David Robinson or Tim Duncan. -

He's like T-Mac without the scoring or passing ability. as long as we get performances like this out of him we'll do just fine.... http://www.nba.com/games/20090...ORLMIL/boxscore.html Ouch. Foyle played well though.

Dwight needed to cut down on his fouls anyway.

Von Wafer got kicked off of Adelman's bench during the Lakers series. Not the type of guy we need around SVG and a team building chemistry throughout the year. obviously you have not watched landry play, because he has an excellent jump shot (he was even working on a 3-point-shot last offseason according to rockets news). the main knock on him is that he doesn't have a dependable back-to-the-basket game, and because of his lack of size, he can be abused in the post. but he is a ferocious rebounder and explosive dunker who doesn't require the ball in his hands. I watched the entirety of the Houston-Lakers series but that's about all I've really seen of him. I think he'd be a great add even if he couldn't shoot, but if he has developed a jumper that's a plus.

Rudy Fernandez Upset W/ Portland About Turk

Someone mentioned in a sign and trade that they can afford wouldn't put them too far into the tax. -

They won't take on 9 million in salary and then spend the MLE. Too much tax. -

What about Lee and Robinson from NY...they became free agents
Tank Vogel replied to Magicfan57's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
Robinson is an undersized 2. Lee is nice but too expensive. -

Delonte West is gonna guard Vince Carter? At worst, it is a lateral move short term that is better for the long term. They avoid giving a 30 year old player a 5 year deal which would allowed no cap flexibility while the rest of the league changed their rosters to matchup with them.
