But Lewis should definitely start at the 4 This should be our starters: Nelson, Carter, Pietrus,Lewis, Howard Our team doesnt really need a 6th man all the bench cause were so deep in scorers from the starters that play big minutes. Nelson, Carter, Lewis and Howard will be our main scorers. Everybody else just chip in points and play their role. We dont need a Jason Terry or Manu Ginobili type 6th man on this team. So for you people think Pietrus will be a good 6th man, me personally I think he should start. Brings defense and hustle to the starting lineup. i disagree completely. Last year Pietrus was at his best coming off the bench as a second punch in the playoff's and was a nice way to cool of a scorer. if you want defense and hustle in the starting lineup then why not put in the guy that we just paid nearly 5 mil a year. Bass. He rebounds, runs the floor, and is just as strong as kendrick perkins in the post. I feel that we need to go to a normal lineup simply because Turk is gone. I know alot of people are now demonizing him since he left but the fact is, Turk was a huge reason why we could run that lineup. Now Vince may have averaged as many assists as turk last year but that was in a completely different system. Neither Vince, Pietrus, Barnes, or Anderson are point forwards and if we ask them to be they will most likely fail. Lets get everyone back to the position their best at. Get Lewis at the SF and let Pietrus try to make a run at 6 man of the year award. Word.

What we also learned from last year is that Pietrus is much better coming off the bench, so why would we want to change that? Last years uncoventional lineup worked becuase we had an unconventional player in Hedo. He's gone now, so imo its time to go traditional. We have the pieces and it makes the rotation easier and the team deeper, so why not do it? LMAO!!!!!!! Turk and Lee Like they cant be replaced by Carter and Pietrus. Were better. I never said we weren't better, thats not even close to the point...read my post again. I said Turk is the reason we played an unconventional lineup and got away with it. I think we're better with Bass at the PF, running a conventional lineup. I've already laid out my reasons why. Again, read my post...
  3. quote: Originally posted by 135BPM+:Nice lttle article but just an opinon just like the rest of us have. With JJ's continued improvement I see him playing several minutes within The 2nd unit at the SG and Pietus at SF and the conventional unit at SG and Vince at SF. Much to the dismay of many JJ will see action next season and likely more mins. than this past season GO MAGIC!!!! I disagree wholeheartedly. I really think JJ is the 9th or 10th guy in the rotation at the moment.

  5. quote: Originally posted by echo4papa:We did most of our damage last season playing an 'unconventional' line up with 'Shard at the pf position. We struggled against Boston and the Lakers because we lacked the ability to respond with toughness at the PF position. Why would we scrap what made us so effective and dangerous because of two teams? Shard stays at the four and Bass gives us the ability to go conventional and answer with toughness when needed. I don't think he starts, and I bet Shard gets the majority of his minutes at the PF position. I'm not disagreeing with you, because you make a really solid argument, but I still think its time to go conventional for a couple reasons. The first is playing time, which MagicDOLPHIN already alluded to. Going with Rashard at the 4, pretty much guarantees that Ryan Anderson will be fighting with JJ Redick for waterboy duties, and I think most agree this kid needs to be on the court. Also Bass just gives us so much more of an interior presence than Rashard can at that position, and lets not forget, Rashard Lewis really is playing out of position at PF. Bass can hit a midrange J which will keep his defender honest, and I think were a much better defensive/rebounding team with him on the court. In my opinion, last years team was able to/forced to play an unconventional lineup because Turk and Rashard play the same position and had to be on the court together. It worked because Rashard could stretch the D and Turk was the playmaker. However there were some drawbacks. 1)rebounding (excluding Dwight), 2)interior defense (excluding Dwight), 3)toughness. Even with the best rebounder on the planet the Magic have always been labeled soft, and with Rashard at the PF spot, how can anyone really argue that? I hope we start Bass because it makes this team less smoke and mirrors and more legitimate, plus it makes the rotations easier and makes us a deeper, more well rounded starting unit and overall team. Having said all that, I trust SVG and am interested to see how he utilizes all the pieces he has at his disposal...it should be very interesting!

    His chance at MVP

I know teams will not play to shut him down like they have in the past, because he has more options around him than one other person. I think he will have an extremely efficient year especially shooting the 3. His jumpshots this year will happen a lot more with defenders sluffing off of him to double dwight unlike the past when he would shoot a 3 because if he drives teams will double team him. It's just how I see things working out. And I am not saying he will average the numbers I stated above, but he is sure could post those numbers. Vince Carter has no chance. Zero.

That won't happen. If someone on our team is gonna be the MVP. Its gonna be Dwight. No one else. Word
  8. Okay so this is my first discussion and I'll probably get slammed for starting it but I thought it was worth noting. She's been a magic dancer for a while now and is part of the famed Magic dancers that dunk off the trampoline. I've included a link with pics, so before the slamming or lock please enjoy! http://www.orlandosentinel.com...,117735.photogallery Crap, already noticed a typo...the grammar police are gonna shred me!

  11. In the authors defense, I think he means that JJ is the only piece we'd actually be willing to trade and that still has some value...albeit maybe to only a handfull of teams.

Its Official! Barnes A Magic! [update p.24]

Unless, Bass/Anderson/Gortat really impress in training camp. Imo we signed bass so we can start shard at the 3 or 4 depending on wat team we r playing I agree we signed Bass to give us flexibility, but the starting line up isnt going to be changing on a nightly basis based on matchups. Substitutions and minutes may vary depending on matchups, but not the starting line up.

Duhon or Watson would immediately be our backup point. JJ won't play unless there are catastrophic injuries. Duhon can start if Jameer goes down for the year again. 4th string? That doesn't even make sense, JJ is the backup SG. Barnes will most likely start and MP will get minutes there. Depending on matchups RA could see time there but probably not a whole lot. Barnes is not being brought in here to play SG, that makes no sense and JJ will get minutes. RA and Gortat are actually the 2 guys who will lose minutes. Barnes will not be starting.

They have 7 days to decide wether to match or not. They can decide within 2 hrs to not match, file the paperwork, and Watson is ours. If thats the case I didn't realize that. Doesn't sound like he's even signed the offer sheet yet so hopefully a sign and trade is in the works.

Also, everyone here is raving about his ability to play the 2 as well. Did any of you stop and think the Warriors could just play him there too? If they don't match I'll happily eat crow but I see no reason for them to let a young player that wouldn't cost much walk for nothing. Whether Acie Law is trash or not is not really the issue. The issue is he plays PG and is under contract, so the thinking of the majority here is why would they sign CJ and stockpile four PG's? Not saying they won't match, it is Golden State, but its reasonable to think they may not match.

    Dwight vs Shaq

Yeah, but I think its fair to say that Dwight is a completely different player than KG also. Dwight is power, while KG is more finesse. I don't think I ever want to see Dwight out at the top of the key shooting jumpers. Dwight is one of a kind in my book. Closest thing in my mind is Olajuwan. If Dwight had his low post repertoire he'd be ridiculous.

quote: Originally posted by UBBALLER8: quote: Originally posted by Skywise316:Someone tell me again why we need Matt Barnes? I wouldn't mind him because for a contract starting at 1.7, 1.8 mil it's good value, I just don't understand why most of the forum is losing their minds over the guy. The same reason this or any other board wants anyone. Everyone hears his name and thinks he fits a certain piece of a puzzle to win a championship. However, it eventually turns into a telephone or Paul Revere type moment where guys who are 7th and 8th men (i.e. Matt Barnes) become larger than life basketball Gods (for the lack of a better term) because people have been talking about wanting them on the team for such a long period of time. Matt Barnes is a pretty good player and I would like him on the Magic. However, it doesn't really make the Cavs much better by nabbing him if true. I think he would help make the Magic better by allowing us to play Shard at the 4 and have Barnes start (only for Pietrus to take a majority of the minutes off the bench), but he doesn't do much for the Cavs. He plays the same position as LeBrick and Danny Green who they drafted. I see this more of a move to prevent us from getting better rather than one that makes the Cavs better themselves. I can't see any scenario in which Barnes would start, barring injuries.

I think hockey guy also signed Hedo that off-season, so thats not really Otis Smith's move either.

I'm pretty sure you cannot combine the trade exception with another player to trade for a player with a larger salary (like Bosh for instance) unless the team you're trading with is under the salary cap, which Toronto isn't.

    How Long

1989. My family bought four season tickets in the first row of the upper deck and I went to almost every excruciating game that year. We lost a ton, but the O-rena still rocked !
  23. quote: Originally posted by iC_:Hallo, i'm polish fan of Marcin Gortat and Orlando Magic but i completly agree with Leoben. It would be a great step forward for Marcin if he could play with Jason Kidd and Dirk Nowitzki. Now his career is gonna stop for one year. Now in Poland it's news number one in many sport portals and in each one it's treated like Leoben wrote. Greetings from Poland At worst, Gortat gets to practice against the best center in the league and become a stronger more physical player, all while making about 8 times last years salary. At best, he does this and wins a ring in the process. Its a win, win for Marcin...he's still a young guy.

Otis matched so it doesn't make a difference, there is no physical needed since he's staying with the Magic and this won't effect his camps in Poland at all.
