Anyhow it's official, get ready for a fun day tomorrow. Players can opt in or out and trades can happen starting Monday.

    Edit.

I still think the most likely trade partners for Gordon are Suns, Wolves or Nets.

Nets want a bigger fish so i doubt it.

Suns would be smart to get Gordon, but only if they miss out on Chris Paul.

Wolves would never trade us the number one pick. If we did a trade with them it would be for the 17th pick and probably a young guard. If they do draft Edwards number one they have too many young guards. Would be a natural trade for us. Either a S&T for Beasley or if they are keeping Malik then James Johnson and one of the youngsters. Okogie, Evans, Culver or possibly Spellman for depth. Culver was awful last year. Him and Okogie can't shoot but are young enough to turn it around. Evans can shoot and has the right size for a shooting guard but is more then likely a bench player if he sticks in the league. Spellman also was average but looked ok on the warriors.

Is it confirmed that tomorrow is the date also for contract opt-ins and outs?

About a possible AG trade, looks like MIN is into it. I hope GSW joins the party, whether it is for him, for Vooch, or both.

Picks 2 and 15 in this year's draft and probably two top 10 picks in next year's loaded draft (Minny and ours) plus a trade exception we could use to be a salary dump and get additional picks?  and still have Isaac, Gordon, and Fultz?

I've been advocating for us to make a mini-rebuild this offseason but this is beyond my wettest dreams.

Agree that in this scenario we would go for Wiseman at #2, then maybe get Nesmith at #15 to cover Ross's role (or Kira in case we prioritize a PG) and a back-up guard at #45, like Riller, and getting ready for next year's draft, which apparently is impressive in scoring guards/wings (Jalen Green, Jalen Johnson, Terrence Clarke, Ziaire Williams, BJ Boston, Scottie Barnes... not to mention Cade Cunningham).

Not sure GSW would do it though, but it does fit their roster short-term needs very, very nicely. IMO, there are not many players that fit better next to Vuc in the front-court than Draymond and having Ross coming out of the bench for them makes plenty of sense.

    Fingers (double) crossed!

I’m really curious what the value of Gordon and Vooch are around the league. I’m more open to trading Gordon than I ever have been before.

I'm open to trade both than I ever was, to be honest.

As much as it costs to admit, AG has had more than enough opportunities to raise his game and Vuc will not be better than he was this playoff so we will not do better than this past season. Adding to this, the possibility of WAS, CHI and ATL performing better next year, it looks like we will hardly finish 8 seed again (let alone doing better).

So I tend to see this coming season as an opportunity to clean the house, get some good value back and also set us up to capitalize whenever an opportunity comes up - sort of taking a step back now so we can take 2 step forward later on.

Pels reportedly open to trading Jrue

Not totally unexpected but certainly interesting. Although, I would take any rumours involving us with a pinch of salt as I don't see a trade that is fair for both sides.

I doubt they are interested in AG (I may be very wrong though).

Doing Jrue for Fournier+Aminu would be too good for us.

A direct swap Vuc for Jrue would be too good for them, unless they add future pick (2021) which I don't expect them to do...

Do we ever entertain the Bucks and ask what they want for Giannis?

Man... I almost passed a sleepless night this weekend thinking about this...

After reading that Giannis unfollowed the Bucks and all his colleagues in a social media network and that he was going to sit down with the Bucks owner early this week to clarify the future... Man... My head couldn't stop thinking about this...

Putting all this together with some interview or comment he made some time ago saying that he didn't see himself moving to a "mediatic" town like LA or Miami and the fact that the GM that drafted him in first place is now part of our FO, it quickly passed from a random insomnia to a "can't-stay-in-bed-anymore" situation... Eventually, I was able to calm down, stop torturing myself with all this "illusion" and managed to fall asleep.

But yes, if the possibility of him leaving the Bucks comes up and we do a proper inquire about him, I think they would ask for something like AG, Isaac, Bamba or Fultz + 1st rd pick, at least.

And IMO, if and when a possibility like this comes up, you just don't say "no", whatever pain it may cause to see certain players leaving...

Funnily I actually have a different view on Gary Harris. I think his value is pretty low because of his poor numbers stemming from his injuries and a reduction in role. I actually think he's a decent buy low candidate. I'd do Fournier for him and 22 for example.

It actually wasn't me who said we should be targeting players about to be stars I was more thinking about finding bargain guys who could be high end roleplayers but if we end up trading AG or Vuc i would expect a promising young player in the package (or draft picks to draft our own promising young player). I also think you might be overvaluing some of the names on your list. Like sure I wouldn't expect any team to give up on any of the guys that were high lottery picks but guys like Nassir Little and Anfernee Simons haven't even really proved they'll stick in the league after their rookie deals so it's reasonable to presume we'd be able to acquire them if we wanted and had something their teams wanted to trade for.

Teams give up on young players all the time. The Fultz trade was an exemption in that you can almost never get a former number 1 overall pick who's barely played an NBA game for very little, but every season teams make trades where they throw in a young guy who they've given up on. The Indiana Pacers got TJ Warren and 3 second round picks for some cash. Weltman has himself made a couple of trades to give us a free hit on a young talent the other team has given up on, they just didn't work out so we've already forgotten them (Jerian Grant and Jarell Martin).

I'd say 50-50 is more than optimistic about the chances young guys develop. But that's ok. If they don't prove they're a contributor, you waive them, if theyre a contributor but not a star you play them and then maybe trade them when the time is right if you can, and if they are a star then you count your lucky stars. That's rebuilding. You just keep taking chances on guys until you hit.

And to be clear I'm not suggesting we do this as the only and exclusive way to finding a star. We should also be trying to draft one, gathering assets to trade for one and maintaining some sort of flexibility to sign one if we get the (rather unlikely) impression that's a possibility.

The problem with your "selling the bridge" is we just don't have the assets to do that right now. No team with a legitimate young star (Ingram, Brown, Ben Simmons etc) is going to trade someone in their early twenties for a 30 year old center, some draft picks and a DPOY candidate in a wheelchair. Hoping they will seems futile to me.

Don't get me wrong if we somehow swung a trade for someone like that I'd be here eating crow but I prefer to be surprised rather than disappointed.

Sorry, my bad for addressing to you on players "about to be stars".

But honestly, saying that we should go for high-end "role players" makes even less sense to me... "Role players" is not at all what we are missing at the moment and IMO it will not do the change that we need... We need more than that. Either on short-term (we try to deal for a high-impact player, like I am more in-line with) or in the medium to long-term (by trading for draft picks or gambling on unproven young players).

What makes me think of chasing a young player that is "hitting" is that I am impressed with Vuc's performances in these playoffs and I think it makes some sense for us to actually try to make the most out of it. Like you say, he is almost 30 and we will not have Isaac next year, so why not?

And yes, it is quite a long shot to make NOP deal for him but Favours contract is expiring. Hayes is still very raw. Last year, they didn't gave Ingram the extension he was eligible to, so does he has NOP front-office in high regards? So, I mean, who knows...

AG is a bit different due to Isaac's injury, and I wouldn't be surprised if he improves his game next year. But again, if any one comes up with a decent proposal (let's say MIN attempts to get Booker come up dry and so they offer us their 1st pick + Johnson for AG and our pick), honestly I'm in to see Edwards becoming our future SG.

  7. I see your point but still, I don't really share the same opinion. Which is perfectly fair.

I agree with your observations in the mentioned players (like Hield, McCollum, Harris, Levert) and probably would add Gary Harris and Beal... even though I don't think we would get them (unless he demands, I don't really expect WAS to trade Beal, and especially not for another SE division team; and I don't think Harris would really improve us, in what we are more in need of).

So going to your main point, let's start by identifying who do we have in mind when it is mentioned "players about to breakthrough or with star potential that we can easily afford"?

When I read this, the 1st names that come to my mind are the likes of Culver, Reddish, Hunter, Little, Barret, Simons, Trent Jr., K. Porter Jr, M. Porter Jr., Garland, Keldon Jonhson... Now, I don't believe at all that their teams will just let them go in exchange for some 2nd round picks and fillers or expiring contracts... Honestly, I don't even see most of them being traded for less than AG or Bamba plus 1st round pick(s)... So, I don't think that would be a "cheap" deal for us... To be honest, I think Fultz deal was an exception and we are still waiting to see if he is really going to reach his full potential.

And let's be really optimistic and assume we indeed are able to get some of these young players, I would say that there is almost a 50-50 chance that they will not really blossom into what we were expecting and so what... we are stuck in the same situation... and here we go again...

So, once again, it's not easy to see it through but if it was me, I would really chase other team's and try to "sell the bridge" to reach out a guy, still before his prime, and that we are more assured that would really improve us.

I think the buy low, or someone coming off their rookie deal as a role-player is the way to go. I think we did well with our pick-ups of James Ennis III and Gary Clark, so maybe this is the path to take, especially with the salary-cap restraints that will be caused by the coronavirus restraints on this season (and next?). I expect that both Fournier and Ennis will opt in, for that very reason. There just isn't going to be much money out there this off-season. I just don't see us being a big spender this summer, I doubt we will even use the full, mid-level exception.

Sorry, I beg to differ. Honestly, I think we have passed that time of doing small adjustments and betting on cheap and supposedly "un-tapped" players. I agree the cap evolution in the next season(s) brings some concerns but I think it is time to really shake up things and move on from the way this roster is made. And don't get me wrong, I do appreciate having Ennis and Clark and am enjoying their performances, but they are good role players, no more than that and so, they will not make the needle move...

Of course, it is easy to speak, and even though I have this impression, I cannot choose what would be in my opinion the best way forward. Probably, we should capitalise on the great numbers that Vuc is making against the Bucks. But even if we go for it, what would we like in return: top draft pick(s)? or an emerging star? and who?

I could see GSW starting to "salive" with Vucs performances as I think what he is showing these days would be a tremendous fit with Draymond in their front court and with the splash-brothers in the perimeter. If so, would we "swallow" Wiggins contract (and risk) for their 2020 #2 pick and hopefully their 2021 or 2022 1st round pick? And if so, if we assume that Edwards is a lock at #1, who would we pick with their #2: Wiseman (and completely discard Bamba) or Ball (and make Fultz "run for the money")?

If we choose an emerging/raising star, my dream (like Mauro) would be a sign and trade for Ingram. I do see potential interest from the NOP to have Vuc stretching the floor for Zion's runs to the basket. Still, I agree it is a long shot, but hey... we'll never know if we don't try... And appart from him, Jaylen Brown would also be a "dream", but I don't see BOS trading now, especially not this offseason...

So once again, I know what I would not do, but I admit, it is not easy to find the clear way forward...

  9. I'm so much looking forward to our official return tomorrow!

Isaac was very impressive, and even though I trying to remain "realistic" and accept that not all games go the same way and that Isaac numbers and efficiency decrease along while his playing time ramps-up, it is undeniable the boost impact he gave to the team and how he influenced the game. It is becoming more and more evident that the Magic are becoming "Isaac's team".

And this will, sooner or later, generate speculation around the role on AG in our team, like this article recently published by BR...

    https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2902207-trade-packages-and-landing-spots-for-magic-star-aaron-gordon

I really hope that Isaac is taking the development step that we all hoped for, but if so, we will end up having to face this decision, sooner or later.

It is really depressing when you look at possible landing spots for Vuc.  Really few that make sense.  Sort of makes you wonder what the market was really like for him last off-season.

I just don't see upside to keeping Vuc and Fournier.  Getting the 7th or 8 seed is fools gold.  I'd rather get a higher draft pick to add to Isaac, Fultz, etc.  I'd rather have cap flexibility.  I'd rather make decisions on Bamba (increased minutes) and Gordon (increased usage as a facilitator).

So yeah.  I'm dealing Vuc to just about any landing spot and praying that deal convinces Evan to opt out.

    Completely agree!

I would definitely go down that road and speaking about possible "I'd rather" scenarios, my favourite one would be to get the Pelicans to sign-and-trade Ingram for Vuc (adding a filler or 2nd rd pick if needed). They didn't extend him last summer so for me it wouldn't be a surprise if he is not favoring them at all.

On the Pelicans side, Zion will monopolise the offense for years to come (nothing to blame NOP on that) and Vuc would be an upgrade compared to Favors, for basically the same salary. Hayes looks like a good prospect but is not ready yet to be the starting 5.

As for us, IMO, Ingram is one of the players (if not THE PLAYER) in the league that better fits in between Fultz and Isaac (and hopefully Bamba), both in terms of playing style and also age. I think it is not needed to elaborate too much on how his 3-level offense would complement our young core strengths.

This would leave us with Gordon "a bit" out of context and, as I don't think it would be neither fair to him nor smart for the team to bench him, I will trade him for future picks + a good SG &/or C . For example: Beasley from MIN; Turner from IND; Allen from BKN; Bridges from PHO; Bogdanovic from SAC.

This is just my preferred way forward. There are plenty other ways, like those already shared here, so this is to say that if the coming offseason will be the same as the previous ones, all my hope on this FO will be gone for good.

  11. Hi everyone, hope you and your beloved ones are all safe and well.

Do you guys know until when does Fournier have to announce if he opts-in or not of the last year of his contract?

I have been going through the profiles of some draft candidates and free agents that we could have a go this summer while trying to set up plan(s) to make us competitive both in the near and long terms but this "variable" keeps coming up quite frequently...

Your thoughts on trading Augustine for D-Rose?

I would do it, but unless we give them pick(s), I don't see DET doing it...

Anyway, I do agree that we really NEED to do something. While we just won yesterday and are congratulating each other on how well we played as a team, I honestly think this "ternure" will only last until our next ugly performance, like last saturday @GSW.

IMO, we need to capitalize now on the good numbers of Fournier this season and on the apparent interest of some teams in Augustine, so the first move I would do would be a 3-team trade with the Mavs and the Lakers:

    https://tradenba.com/trades/OYGyhh1Sm

I can see both Mavs and Lakers being open to do this as they both want to "push" for a good playoffs run this year.

After this I would be hesitant in staying put until end of season or go for a 2nd deal... If so, I would target another "top-tier" team that looks to be open to deal at the moment: the Nuggets. Seeing that they're over-crowded with guards and in need for help around Jokic, I would be very tempted to approach them for this deal:

    https://tradenba.com/trades/Yy7iYe7G7

Hell, I know moving AG is a polemic subject in here, but... YES, I would do this deal! Moreover, I would even give our 2020 1st round pick instead of a 2nd rounder to convince them to include MPJ in the deal.

The thing with Portland is they'll probably flip Bazemore, little, and future draft picks for depth vs trading one of their big players.

Replace Little by A.Simons and I am all in for it.

Otherwise, I’ve read that KAT is unhappy in Minnesota and although I would love to see him pairing with Fultz and Isaac, I doubt that Orlando would be high on his wishlist in case he moves.

In case this is true, I could see us getting somehow involved and getting back J.Brown and Hayward, that I think would mix well with our 2 players of the future, Fultz and Isaac. Note that Teague would be the filler to allow for the Jaylen’s “new contract”, starting next summer.

We should try to get Bogdan Bogdanovich from the Kings. Sacramento can’t pay him and if he plays good we can extend him. Maybe they take Mo Bamba plus Wes...Bogdanovich is a great shooter, above the average passer and he got confidence to make shots. He will improve the offence significantly.

Agree in general but not with the part that SAC can’t pay him. Ariza and Bjelica contacts will basically come out of their payroll at the end of the year, so they will have margin and by the good impact Bogdanovic is making for them, I think it is very likely they will keep him.

Looking at how we are at the moment, it looks like in the best scenario, we will just make into the playoffs but then, with no real perspective of good playoff run after that: playing MIL or BOS or PHI or TOR... and if we follow the same philosophy of last summer, I don’t see us improving considerably next year too...

So I do think we should do something and try to improve our team. And by going to the market, we should focus on POR as trading partner... they are a “winning-now” team that is not delivering so they must be open for trade, and they have one player (Simons) that I really believe would fit perfectly with our future core (Fultz, Isaac... and probably Bamba, Okeke). I think Fournier+Aminu would satisfy their current needs and let him and Bazemore go. Note that Bazemore contract end next summer.
