Will there be a trade?

Well since it is slow I thought it would be a good idea to think about what the Magic have for bargaining power at the trade deadline.

 

The #1 thing is the $3.3 million trade exception we got from the Dooling trade.

 

The #2 thing is obviously Hedo since he will opt out if the Magic do not want to keep him.

 

The #3 thing would be Bogan's $2.9 million, Foyle's $1.26 million & JJ's $2.14 million (if option was not picked up) expiring deals.

 

The #4 could be Brian Cook or Tony Battie since both have one more year on their deals. If Cook is on fire he will probably opt out so his $3.5 million contract could be viewed by other teams as a expiring contract.

 

That really opens up a ton of options. From getting a small piece we need for a major playoff push, to getting a All-Star in a trade for Hedo and others. I think Otis is smart by holding on to his assets, especially the trade exception and just bringing in what he could based on not making a trade this summer.

 

What is out there? We already see A.I. will probably get traded again, but he does not really fit with the Magic...or does he? But who else out there is a option and what would we really need?

 

We could probably all agree another big man next to Dwight would be the perfect fit if Hedo is traded, but which one it out there that would be worth a trade?

I'll take Carlos Boozer for $500 Alex.

 

You have to go with a player like Boozer. Hes everything we would need at the 4. For Turk and Battie should be able to get Boozer. We get the defense,rebounding and we still would have a 20ppg type scorer. I love it. Boozer and Howard would control the paint instantly give us higher rankings and a better chance to not just win the conference but win a championship THIS YEAR. If not this year, Next year or This year and next year. We could really control the east with Boozer on our team.

The only problem is you can't get Carlos Boozer for $500. Carlos Boozer is in the final year of his contract making $11M+, is 26 years old, and is going to expect a max contract next season. If you think we will have trouble finding enough money to retain Hedo, where do you think we will find enough to retain Boozer? Also, what makes you think he is even on the block? With Kirilenko making $15M, and reportedly unhappy with Utah, I have no doubt they would try to move AK long before they wanted to move Boozer.

Boozer would most likely either leave us or cost more than Turk due to his impending free agency and the fact that our neighbors down south (no, not Cuba or Mexico) plan on making a run for him. I don't see that as our best option.

 

I do think the TPE is a great thing to have, especially since it expires, as it is is almost a guarantee that Otis will use it. And, as a fan, aren't moves one of the things we live for?

my question is why does everyone seem to feel we need MORE bigs? we've already got 5 off the top of my head, why do we need a 6th? if we're gonna trade turk and/or battie, let's get something else. for starters, if we trade turk, we're probably gonna need another SF. and then there's the PG situation that i'm not too happy about. love jameer as the starter, but i was hoping to get crittenton(sp?) as the backup.

 

just to throw it out there, here's what i'd like to see:

 

trade turk/bogans for critt/2nd rounder

use the trade exception to maybe find a FA SF, to back up lewis (and do you have to spend the WHOLE thing at once, or can you keep whatever's left over?)

 

Nelson/Critt/AJ (dunno if we would still need that guy we just signed)

Pietrus/JJ/Lee

Shard/?/Pietrus

Gortat/Cookie/Foyle

Howard/Battie/Foyle

 

a more conventional lineup, but i think i remember pietrus being able to play the 3 well enough for us to go to that small-ball lineup if we wanted to. and turk packaged with bogans should be able to get us something nice. so what do ya'll think?

What about a trade for Ben Gordon at the trade deadline if he ends up accepting the 1 year Q offer from the Bulls?

 

That could net the Bulls some interesting trade offers.

I don't see the team using the trade exception anytime soon. The team is right at the Lux tax limit and won't make a deal that puts them over it. Trade exceptions are good to have for the draft if you decide to buy an extra pick when you are over the cap.

 

Boozer is a pipe dream, he wants the max and Memphis has the cap room and need to give it to him this summer. He will be too expensive for the Magic to retain where the team might be able to work out a deal with Hedo to pay him more up front.

 

Personally, I would like to find a way to keep Gortat, Cook and Hedo by moving Battie. Which should not be a problem considering his expiring contract will be attractive to teams trying to create space for the following summer.

What kind of feces? Human or animal? And do said feces come in a bag or some other container? Put a number 7 on the container and sit it on the end of the bench we wouldn't even know jj was gone.
