OK Magic fans, after some game thread-related problems over the weekend, the Mods have decided to institute a new policy: we will now have a sign-up "sheet" for those board members interested in doing a Game Thread.

Our hope is that this will accomplish two things: set up some guidelines for the Game Thread, and provide any board members who wish to do a game thread with the opportunity to do so.

We will post the games 5 at the time. Anyone who wants to do a game thread can simply reply in the thread with their selection. Selection will be first come, first served. Once a game has been selected, a Moderator will edit the original post to show which member is doing each Game Thread.

Guidelines

  • You may only select one game at a time. If a particular game has not been reserved by Noon EST on the day before the game, then that game is "fair game" for anyone who wants to do the Game Thread. In the case of a back-to-back, the second game becomes fair game immediately upon completion of the first game.

  • The member who is responsible for a particular Game Thread is also responsible for posting any game previews, statistics, or other game-related info in it. To be clear, if you are not the member posting the game thread, you do not need to be posting this type of content in the game thread. If you choose to do a Game Thread, then you must accept the responsibility of providing/posting game-related info that may be of value to your fellow board members.

  • Any game-related info (stats, previews, comparisons, links to articles, recaps, etc.) should be posted in the original post only. Yes, this may make the original post larger, but it will also help keep the rest of the thread easy to navigate.

  • The Game Thread can be posted no earlier than Noon EST on the day before the game. In the case of back-to-back games, the Game Thread of the second game can be posted immediately after the completion of the first game. Once you have posted your Game Thread, a Moderator will "sticky" the thread as soon as possible.

This experiment will be a work in progress. As we move forward with this, we may have to tweak the process, as needed.

Please remember that this is not a contest. Each Game Thread does not have to be the same. We would like to encourage board members to put their own spin on it if they wish. The point of the Game Thread is to provide one location to discuss that particular game. We hope that this new process will allow all interested board members with the opportunity to perform this important function.

Now that all of that is out of the way, here is the sign-up sheet for the next five games:

  • Wednesday, March 19th vs. Wizards - Human Highlight Film

  • Friday, March 21st vs. Sixers - WPMagic

  • Saturday, March 22nd @ Hawks - MilitaryMagic

  • Tuesday, March 25th vs. Spurs - Magicdepth

  • Friday, March 28th @ Bucks - Drain-O

Nice. The gamethreads have been weak since others started swiping them from JD (no offense inteded to anyone, just matter-of-fact imo). I look forward to getting good info from them again.

Excellent work, mods! Glad you guys addressed this.

That's odd. JD posts the exact same stuff in the game thread regardless of whether he started it or not.

Emory, according to the new rules, JD can no longer add information (stats and stuff) if he did not start the game thread.

I think he was addressing this:

I'll clarify - I particularly mean the opening post of the gamethread has had all the life sucked out of it. I've been on vaca the past week and haven't been regularly checking the boards. Hopefully JD didn't stop posting the quotes, baseline blogs, and other goodies in the game threads, if that's what you mean. It would totally suck if we lost those!
