Boston...as a matter of fact...ranks 23rd in the league at a turnover ratio of -1.31. In the Magic's win over the Celtics in November, Orlando forced 20 Boston turnovers on their way to victory. Boston is also an outstanding 20-1 when they commit fewer turnovers than their opponents, so it is vital that the Magic take care of the ball and get after it at the defensive end. Free-Throw Shooting Boston ranks 25th in foul differential at -1.39, so the Magic need to shoot well from the charity stripe to gain an advantage on the Celtics. In both their meetings this season, the Magic have gotten to the free-throw line often but have shot under 70 percent combined in those two meetings. Expect them to get to the free-throw line often again this afternoon, but they must take advantage of that opportunity and hit for a good percentage. PREGAME Sunday's much anticipated, nationally televised match-up against the Magic and the Boston Celtics features the third meeting between the two teams this season. The two teams have split the season series with each victory siding with the home team, and their last meeting came in Boston on December 23rd. The Celtics handed the Magic a 103-91 loss thanks to balanced scoring and superb shooting. Boston had four players score 20 points or more and shot 52 percent from the field while Dwight Howard bucketed 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in defeat. In their first meeting of the season...Boston visited Amway Arena in mid-November and the Magic handed the 8-0 Celtics (at that time) their first loss in a hard fought 104-102 victory. In that game...The Magic led by 17 points at the half and the Celtics stormed back to take the lead in the fourth but behind Dwight Howard's 24 points the Magic were able to come away with the win. Wins are hard to come by when facing the Celtics whom currently hold the league's best record at 34-7, and much of their success and hype has been centered on their "Big Three" players: Kevin Garnett (19.3 ppg, 9.8 rpg), Paul Pierce (20.4 ppg, 4.9 apg), and Ray Allen (18.2 ppg). The trio are Boston's only scorers averaging in double figures and account for nearly 58 percent of their teams total scoring. Against the Magic this season, the trio has averaged 64 points while the Celtics as a whole has averaged 101 points, shooting nearly 53 percent from the field. The Magic must continue their stellar defensive play of late (43 percent opponent field-goal percentage average in last three wins) if they want to compete against the league's top defensive team. Boston leads the league in several defensive categories while holding their opponents to the lowest points (87.7), field-goal percentage (.412), three-point field-goal percentage (.307), rebounds (37.4), and assists (17.3). On top of that...the Celtics rank in the top five in field-goal percentage (.473), three-point field goal percentage (.377), and lead the NBA in point differential (+ 11.6). Needless to say, the Magic will have to continue their excellent play of late if they hope to extend their three game winning streak at Amway Arena.
