Can JJ be a point guard?

Recommended Posts

I just read he used to get a whole bunch of assist. I don't really follow college Bball so I don't know.

JJ has good height to be a PG, can shoot it, and he seems naturally more unselfish and more willing to move the ball than Jameer or Carlos.

Then we can have Diener backing him up, Jameer used as shooting spark off the bench, and Carlos as a 3rd option. That can make either Carlos or Jameer expendable and we solve our glut at guard.

I would give him a chance at it. No kidding.

Redick would make a good point guard. He is of the John Stockton mold in that he is very heady, great passer, and a terrific shooter with 3 point range. Certainly better than what we presently have at point guard and 6'-4" to boot. Yes, I would like to see it.

Develope Milicic's outside shot and let them do the pick and role like Stockton and Malone.

Cleveland someday, with a different coach, will have Lebron playing point guard because of his court vision and passing abilities.

Redick is too good of a player to be a 3 point specialist. Converting Redick to a point guard allows the team to capitalize on his talents and have him on the floor more.

Wikipedia-

Shooting Guard / Point Guard (combo guard)

A less common use of the word 'tweener' is to describe a player who combines shooting guard and point guard attributes in a manner unsuitable to play either position exclusively. Such players are also known as "combination (or combo) guards".

The most common occurrence of this phenomenon occurs in basketball players who considered too short to play shooting guard at an NBA level, having played this position previously in their basketball career. Conversely, they are unable to play point guard successfully at the highest level of professional basketball due to a lack of the mental specialisation and understanding of the game that this position requires. These players are often referred to as being "a shooting guard trapped in a point guard's body."

Current examples of NBA players who may be derisively considered 'tweeners' in this context are Bobby Jackson, Stephon Marbury, Eric Snow, Tony Delk, Mike James, Dajuan Wagner, J.R. Bremer, Marcus Banks and Steve Francis. However many successful NBA players have overcome early criticism on the basis that they are point/shooting guards to forge successful careers. Some of these include Allen Iverson, Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis, Ben Gordon, Chauncey Billups, and Jason Terry.

JJ stats are:

MPG: 15.6

PPG: 6.2

RPG: 1.1

APG: 0.9 only!!!!

Is really a good PG? A good SG?

dude, I was talking about when he was in college.

Yes those numbers are crappy, but you can't really evaluae him under Brian Hill's system which is a disaster, not to mention JJ has played in few games, and only gotten limited minutes. Really difficult to develop any kind of rythm, especially being a rookie.

Note that his role when Brian does put him in has been to hit 3s, not to pass or be a playmaker.

JJ is a shooting guard. In the off season, I might think he would begin to develop those point guard skills he doesn't have, but he is smart enough to realize that if he did, it wouldn't matter. Hill is hell.

Either BHill or JJ needs to leave in the off season. We all know why Brian needs to pack his bags. If somehow he still has a job, then JJ needs to be traded to an organization that appreciates his talent and strong work ethic. Letting JJ rot on the bench is nothing less than a crime. He should, at least, have a real chance at seeing what he can accomplish in the NBA. He certainly isnt gettting it in Orlando at the present.
