Brown/Webber to get MLE's?

Well it appears that it might be time to look at plan C. Otis, this is what happens when you "wait and see who falls in your lap", you get knocked down the talent ladder.

Now that Eddie Jones has joined the Mavs, the need for James Posey or Mickael Pietrus or Sasha Pavlovic has been reduced. A power forward is next on the list and that means either P.J. Brown, who's still mulling retirement, or Chris Webber, who lists Detroit and the Mavs as his top two choices.

 

Webber is not nearly the player he was, but he remains a good passer, a good rebounder and he can still score. Defense and quickness are different stories, but in limited minutes off the bench (if he'd accept that role at a reasonable salary) he can be a solid contributor. The sticking point with Webber at the moment seems to be length of contract. He's apparently looking for a two-year deal and the Pistons and Mavs both don't want to go beyond one year.

 

Brown is being courted by the Mavs and Suns, and the Celtics are also interested now. It could be an interesting few weeks with the Mavs and Suns both trying to get some more muscle inside. The Suns really need it after trading workmanlike veteran Kurt Thomas to Seattle. The Mavs still need a dependable backup behind Dirk other than newly signed Brandon Bass. Brown could also push Dampier and Diop at the five, plus he'd be a good locker room addition. He's a well-liked guy who does things the right way, so you know Avery Johnson would love to have him. Because there's competition for Brown, there's speculation that he could command the full mid-level exception of $5.36 million. How could you not come back for one more season at that rate?

Guy's this might sound dumn,but I think PG is our guy for the backup PF,he's had some good years with us,if he can get his stroke back,and he's a hustler,you put him in a game,and he'll fight. I think with the 1.8 mill we have to ofer,we should look at signing Fortson,Eli,or Ruffen,but those guy's aren't gonna be as much of an impact as PG.

No, he's not talking about Garrity, he's referring to our Point Guard (PG) from last year, Jameer. And I agree with him. Jameer probably would excel at PF with our current roster, and it would keep him out of the PG slot, another advantage. He would fight and scrape with the bigger PF's, might even bite a few of em. And if he gets his stroke going.......which opposing PF is going to be able to guard him??

The Mavericks are willing to offer him the entire MLE, but would prefer to give him $3.5 million and use the rest to add one more piece to the roster.

 

The other piece the Mavericks are interested in is veteran swingman and defensive specialist James Posey, who has been around the NBA block but was most recently a member of the Miami Heat.

 

Webber would add another scoring threat in the front court and a that ever-elusive back-up to Dirk Nowitzki. Posey would bring rebounding and the ability to push the ball, penetrate, and score on the break. He would also add one more player with championship experience to a roster in need of playoff leadership.

PJ Brown is an option for us, but are we an option for him?

 

-Pheonix is already in talks with him (I don't think we are) Boston wants him.

-Both Boston and Pheonix can pay him more money.

-If he was chasing a championship (and he is) WHY would he come here? He wouldn't.

 

To sign PJ we would have to convince him to play on a team thats not as good for less money. Does anyone think there is anyway in hell that's going to happen?

IamOTIS, I appreciate the compliments and trust me, I feel exactly like you!

 

I will tell you this, Soul Bro has told me that he "frequently" e-mails Otis. Otis periodically responds to him. I also have some lines in the water to possibly find out what Otis next move may be if any. Otis son is playing ball for a school that is 8 minutes from my house. The head coach there is a personal friend of mine as we used to lift weights together locally.

 

If I was to find out anything I wouldn't post it for obvious reasons. It wouldn't be a source anymore. I'll do what I can but quite frankly, I get the impression Otis is the kind of person that when he makes up his mind, nobody will change it.

 

It wouldn't make any difference what you or I or anyone else said, he's gonna do what he has planned in his mind.

 

Does that make sense? Do you agree?
