MC finally blogs again! Could be his last for awhile.

I have decided not to post any blogs for the next week or so because I do not want to add to the national beating the Magic and Otis Smith is taking over the huge contract given to Lewis and the loss of Darko for nothing. I wrote several and after reading each it was apparrent there was nothing I could say that the National media has not already said.

 

 

Simply put, what Otis told the local media about what the Sonics asked for in trade was not true at all. There is a pattern of deception with Otis and there is nothing that he will be able to do when things like this keep coming out. Fortunately or not I live on the West coast and have friends with teams on the West coast. From them I get to learn quite a bit about deals that get talked about whether they happen or not.

 

 

In my heart of hearts I could not believe what ended up coming out of Orlando. Like I said the entire week leading up to the Lewis's trade I could not get one solid thing out of my Orlando sources. Now I do not know if they were just in denial all week or if Otis really kept everything close to the vest.

 

 

I found out this weekend from my friend with the Warriors, they attempted to contact the Magic about Darko and were told there was nothing to talk about. It was their opinion then that Otis had a deal or deals worked out to keep Darko in the fold. That is the only thing that made sense in Otis giving Lewis that much money.

 

 

Now it comes out that neither Otis or Dave Twadzik even made any good faith attempts to talk to Darko or his agent after Lewis agreed to a contract. Only time will tell what Otis is really thinking but for all the seemingly smart moves he made, he has made some pretty dumb ones to.

 

 

See even this blog that was intended to be short and not bashing Otis is turning in to everything I did not want to write. I guess what I am basically trying to say is it will be hard for me to trust Otis moving forward. Even my sources with the Magic are telling me they are sorry and they did not see any of this coming. Kind of sad when the biggest stories of the summer for the Magic are negative. Who would have though that would be the case if you were told when the season ended that Brian Hill would be fired, Stan Van Gundy would be the new coach, Dwight would sign a max extension and Rashard Lewis would become a Magic man. Just amazing to me how the team can take all those positive things and have them be overshadowed with the negative events surrounding them.

 

 

I recieved a lot of emails about ownership. Obviously ownership did not take a seat infront of the camera with the Lewis deal, but many fans have raised the question about their commitment to the salary of the Magic players. I guess we will see about this next summer when Trevor becomes a free agent. I found it interesting listening to Otis on ESPN the radio that when he talked about the Magic starting 5 here is what he said; "Jameer, JJ, Hedo, Rashard and Dwight". He did not even mention Trevor. So it begs the question will Trevor be a casualty next summer? Will it be another illusion to look at one hand so you do not see what the other hand is doing? If we lose Trevor it will be an obvious sign to me and probably most Magic fans that ownership may have indeed been behind losing Darko no matter how improbable that may seem right now. This would be the only thing that would make sense of the lack of "creative financing" done by Otis Smith.

I get the sesnse right now that a team could come to Otis with a deal that 90% of the league would say the Magic should take it, but Otis would some how convince himself that he should not do the deal. I am still waiting on Otis to add that player with an edge to him. I know one is on the table, but like everything else Otis has said since he was named the GM, it was probably a complete lie too. This team is full of marshmellow's. Not a single guy on the team with an attitude, just a bunch of guys that have talent and are happy to be playing in the NBA, Dwight Howard included. Rashard Lewis just added to that soft mushy roster known as the Orlando Magic.

 

 

 

I bet you the trade MC is talking about being on the table is the one for Ron Artest and if Otis doesn't do that that one he's crazy! Ron Artest is exactly what we need. If he doesn't work out then it's one year and done.

 

Turkoglu is replaceable. We need a "tough" guy in the worst way. Somebody please tell me this is not the roster we're going to opening night with cause if it is a may have heart failure.

There has been alot of deception with Otis, he knew we were done with Darko, and yet he chose to keep it secret and get nothing in return.

 

He hasnt made the best decisions, but one thing he has done is get a team together that likes each other, a team of character and that is one thing that needs to stay with this team, we cant go out and just get the toughest son of a ***** out there because we have a team of guys that dont do that ****, if we get Artest he needs to understand we are not a team of hoodlums and that he needs to control himself to a degree or the guys on this team will shun him.

I like that someone who told everyone the Magic were trading Jameer Nelson for the 11th pick in the draft, were getting PJ Carlesimo, and were getting Ray Allen a few years back is bashing Otis Smith for lying. This is quite an ironic post.

 

Otis Smith is no saint, we all know this, but this is the one source that it is actually humorous to hear it from.

Let's not overlook the fact that SVG has a pretty good idea of what it takes to win and was planing a up tempo offense and a collective team defense.

 

I don't think SVG was convinced that Darko would be a good fit and I think that is also a question that Memphis will need to deal with.

 

One thing for sure is that SVG believes a team can only afford 2 players with maximum pay.

 

The fact that Otis overpaid and didn't make a trade are the stingers!!

agree, giving up assets for absolutely nothing is very poor management of your team. The GM is responsible to manage the assets. Otis had a give-a-way day. So sad.

 

You know what this reminds me of. It reminds me of a friend of mind. This friend who I will nto name always loves to brag. Always talks about the material things he has. Thinks he can just buy anything he wants. Everytime he goes out to buy a car, those car dealers lick their chops. The tack on every type of add-ons to his car and he walks out of there with the car he wanted, but at way over sticker price.

 

Otis reminds me of the same thing. He wanted that free agent no matter what. Instead of playing Lewis against Wallace and let the first player who accepts get the deal, he just through the bank at Lewis and paid the price heavy with all the add-ons, way above the sticker price.

i have been reading all these message boards for a long time. Everyone is always a critc of MC. I went to your website and checked it out. Between you, MC, and the firebrianhill gang, if you would stop trying to bash them collectively the whole group of you 3 could really put together a fan site most Magic fans would like to read. Just my opinion, but it is pretty obvious no matter if MC is breaking news or sharing his opinion, the vast majority of fans like to read what he has to say.

What happened with Darko was awful, just a terrible blunder.

 

But MC is way off if he thinks Dwight is soft, he takes a beating inside.
