Jalen Suggs “Playoff review: Banchero’s playoffs were all over the place. At times he was dominant, drilling pull-up 3s and putting Orlando’s offense on his back. He scored 45 points in a painful Game 5 loss (the number would’ve been higher if he hadn’t finished 5-for-12 from the free throw line) and dropped 38 in Game 7. Both games were on the road. Overall, though, on a team that—stop me if you’ve heard this one before!—badly struggled to space the floor, Banchero was wildly inefficient, and his true shooting percentage ended way below league average for the nine trillionth time. Franz Wagner’s injury hurt Orlando’s chances, but in those moments when its offense couldn’t throw a tennis ball into the ocean, Banchero’s disappearing act was hard to watch. Next question: The Giannis Antetokounmpo questions are about to get louder. Now that they have Sean Sweeney as their head coach, will the Magic make a blockbuster trade to get a new franchise player? Banchero is a mega talent. But the cost of Orlando’s roster, combined with last summer’s cash-out trade for Desmond Bane, has created title contender–level expectations. It will be very hard to make any additions without crossing into the second apron. If the Magic don’t think that Banchero is good enough to justify all that financial strain, why would they continue to build around him? —Michael Pina” That last question is the pivotal question. I honestly struggle to see Paolo as the guy who will lead us to a championship. Such is why I’m open to trading him. Quote
Shine88 Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 DJ Bakker, who’s been an assistant coach for the Hornets and head coach of the Swarm in the G League, is a candidate to join Sean Sweeney’s staff as an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic, league sources told HoopsHype. Before joining the Hornets organization, Bakker served as an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2023–24 season. He played a key role in shaping the team’s offensive identity to maximize the strengths of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, while also working individually with Khris Middleton and Malik Beasley. That season, the Bucks finished fifth in Offensive Rating and Bakker was part of the coaching staff for both the 2024 NBA All-Star Game and the playoffs. His G League success began with the Motor City Cruise, where he led the team to a 31–15 record in its inaugural season and a playoff berth, while developing five future NBA players. https://basketballimmersion.com/the-basketball-podcast-ep386-with-dj-bakker/ Bakker (a regional advance scout for Orlando in 2013-14) and Sweeney worked together in Detroit 2018-21. The Neighborhood Bully Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 Quote The Minnesota Timberwolves are likely to be one of the NBA's most aggressive teams this summer. In fact, they have been repeatedly linked to Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. While they only have an outside shot of landing him, Milwaukee has already named their price in a potential blockbuster trade. That is according to Sam Amick of The Athletic (subscription required). The Bucks reportedly want Terrence Shannon Jr., Naz Reid, Jaden McDaniels, and two first-round picks for Giannis. Whether the Timberwolves would agree to that trade remains unclear, but it at least gives them a clear path to landing Giannis, were they to make such an offer. The Bucks GM is delusional Quote

One of the first search results for this guy is a coaching course about transition offense. Unsurprisingly Sweeney wants to play fast. Quote
Shine88 Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 The Orlando Magic will add Riley Crean as an assistant coach, league sources told @hoopshype. Crean was the head video coordinator of the Dallas Mavericks and spent three of four seasons there working with Orlando Magic coach Sean Sweeney. Riley, 27, is the son of coach Tom Crean Quote
Shine88 Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 Sources: The Orlando Magic will add Mfon Udofia as an assistant coach. He won the most games in Long Island Nets history as head coach and had 3 NBA call-ups this year. He was Nigeria’s head coach at the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers and an assistant at the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Desmond Bane will play for him with Team Nigeria in the 2028 Olympics. Quote
Shine88 Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Sources: The Orlando Magic will add DJ Bakker as an assistant coach. He was a Hornets assistant coach and head coach of the Greensboro Swarm in the G League. He’s been an assistant for the Bucks and Pistons. Bakker and Orlando Magic coach Sean Sweeney worked together in Detroit. Quote
Soul Bro Posted June 18 Author Report Posted June 18 It’s nice to see Sweeney have a plan in place. Quote
Shine88 Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 It looks like Prunty and Chalmers are staying on staff. Quote
Soul Bro Posted June 18 Author Report Posted June 18 Are there any top 10 prospects you’ll just love? Quote
CTMagicUK Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Sweeney has worked with Giannis, Blake Griffin, and even Kevin Garnett early on (albeit late career KG in Brooklyn). Bakker has worked with Siakam and even was in Dallas while Dirk was still there I believe. That's to go with, assuming Prunty stays on staff (which remains to be seen), who has coached Duncan, Dirk, Lamarcus Aldridge and Giannis himself. Probably a coincidence but that's a lot of experience with the best power forwards of the last decade plus to be coaching Paolo. Quote
