I know we're making jokes but he traded for Desmond Bane last summer and fired the coach this summer. Those are both reactions lol

We're joking as forumers, yes, but it's also a serious flaw that couldn't be negated anymore. Those two are reactions, or overreactions after poor management?

Yes, he made the Bane move, a good one possibly but not a genius one, giving away most of our assets and putting us in a strict apron situation were moves are even harder.

Yes, he fired the coach... but that was after signing a ghost extension and another failure, so the Mose reaction looked like finding a scapegoat more than nothing.

Except for those, the moves/reactions were enough throughout the years? Everyone that answer yes, is possibly lying or a fan that really loves the team... too much. Just remember that: after the Vuc-Evan-Aaron rebuild moves in february 2021, we made only two trades involving players in all those years (5 full years + 4 months) that actually net us a real rotation player. One is obviously Bane, the other is... mighty Bol Bol.

Really impressing, right? Perfectly on track with franchises that actually win things...

Another thing that is worth considering: we automatically offer the max, or big fat contracts to everyone, without even testing the restricted free agent market. While new NBA champ Brunson has taken a bif discount to have a more competive team, and now Wemby, the most CRYSTAL CLEAR max in NBA, is leaving 50m on the table. So much for the family and tight group situation.

(those are exceptions I know, and I'm not saying that each player doesn't have to think about his family future and money, but still... those little details tell something about the real will of winning it all, and the ability to maximize cap situations in a no-tax state)

The Milwaukee Bucks and Gary Trent Jr. have agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal, league sources confirm. The deal is fully guaranteed with no options, I’m told. Klutch Sports Group CEO Rich Paul and agent Lucas Newton worked with Bucks officials on the deal. ESPN first.

and I thought we could get him for the vet min. Fully guaranteed, too. Hell of a move by Rich Paul.

Gary Trent Jr. is a solid role player, but it’s highly questionable if he’s worth $16 million per year. Despite averaging just 8.1 points, 1.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 0.5 steals per game on 38.7% shooting and 36.0% shooting from three last season, he’s now set to be paid more than much more productive role players like Tim Hardaway Jr.Anfernee Simons, and Rui Hachimura.

In truth, the contract is highly suspicious, and the theory is that the Bucks promised this deal to Trent for accepting short-term, below-market deals in the past. The accusation claims that the Bucks planned to pay Trent later if he took a pay cut to help them build a contender around Giannis. If true, it could be considered cap circumvention, since they manipulated his salary to avoid paying his full value at one time.

“Gary Trent getting 4/$64 after the year he just had is obvious circumvention and should be punished by the league,” wrote Nate Duncan on X. “This would fall under the provision that there is no possible explanation other than circumvention. If judging it purely on its merits, is 4/$64M for Gary Trent Jr. the most absurd deal in NBA history relative to the market if judging at the moment the deal was signed?”

How have some of the early conversations with Sweeney been? Two thinkers of the game getting together.

They've been great. They've been great. Me and him have really hit it off so far. He came out to Seattle last week, worked out with me for a couple days. And obviously we've been working out here in Vegas with the rest of the coaching staff. I'm just really excited about what he can do for me and the team. Like you said, he's a great mind on both sides of the ball. Extremely detail-oriented and he's an intense guy too. And I feel like that's what I need, that's what the team needs. So it's really exciting.

Any particular benchmarks for you this season? Something you want to reach that you weren't able to last year?

For sure. Improve in all areas. Field-goal percentage, 3-point percentage, free-throw percentage. Obviously just be more efficient. I feel like I can be a guy who averages 25 [points], 8 [rebounds] and 7 [assists]. I feel like that's pretty attainable for me. So just showing up consistently every day, not worrying about the numbers and just worrying about the process and how I'm playing to help us win. And all that will take care of itself.

Bucks have just doomed the franchise. Not with the Gary Trent deal, although lord help them if they do find something in writing. Just four or five years of making mistake after mistake. If i could bet on them being this next decades Kings they are my best bet. They will be bad for a decade. Reminds me of last decades Magic.

To expand... I think David Steele is one of the very best if not THE best play by play commentators I've ever heard across several sports. He had a timelessness to his calls.

Back in the day when I was at university and didn't have the money for league pass and was sailing the seas to watch Magic games I'd be genuinely upset when all I could get was the opposition broadcast.

Dante seems like a nice guy but I do not think he's currently a good play by play commentator. Hopefully he can improve and find his own voice. He's got the biggest of shoes to fill though.

David Steele is/was the best play-by-play announcer in the NBA. He will be missed dearly.
