Stinger24 Posted October 23 Report Posted October 23 Ugly start to the season struggled with an average heat team. Defense effort was lacking until late. Need more contributions from outside the big 3 Quote
Shine88 Posted October 23 Report Posted October 23 Good win. Need to clean some things up, but we're off to a good start. Tyus Jones made Davion look like Donovan Mitchell. I never like the signing because of the fit. I think he should be our emergency PG, a, la Corey Joseph and insurance for Suggs, but Jase is a much better fit and I feel he'll give better effort on defense. Quote
hootie249 Posted October 23 Report Posted October 23 Could not watch the game although i did see a bit of the first quarter on my phone. Anyway great win! I fully expected the Heat to give us trouble. It's the HEAT! Even without the same players they have one of the best coaches in the game and always play hard. Anyhow read the recap and saw the stats, looks like a good team win. Starting five is a winning five and the depth is so much better. Hit our free throws, made more 3's and i guess the defense came through in the fourth. What more could you ask for! Quote
Soul Bro Posted October 23 Author Report Posted October 23 Great, gritty win! Thoughts: + Suggs, Bane and Wagner were great. + TDS, Goga and AB looked very solid off the bench. + Paulo came through in the end, but he really had some bad shots and over-dribbled in the first half. + WCJ was almost unplayable until the 4th. + And Jones got torched by Mitchell. Hopefully, Jase can beat him out. All together, this is a game we would have lost in past years. Excited for the year ahead! Quote
All Eyes On Me Posted October 23 Report Posted October 23 A lot of pressing in this one and forcing stuff on offense and losing guys on defense that all point to this group not playing much together, and some insane shot making by the Heat kept it close. It’s so great to have Bane on board and Suggs back! Only rotation piece that makes me nervous right now is Jones, if we didn’t choose to ignore Suggs minute restriction this one is prob an L… lol.. but I’ll take it, ton of energy and great way to start would should be an exciting year! Go Magic! Quote
CTMagicUK Posted October 23 Report Posted October 23 Jalen Suggs is the man. Desmond Bane a major difference maker. Wendell Carter Jr was phenomenal in the 4th quarter. Franz and Paolo were Franz and Paolo. Defense wasn't great for a lot of the night but that'll happen when you're running up and down a lot more and guys are tired. Still got some big stops when it counted. Prediction: Tyus Jones will be out of the rotation post trade deadline. Dude just doesn't give you enough on offense for how bad his defense is. Quote
CTMagicUK Posted October 23 Report Posted October 23 Oh Tristan Da Silva! Gonna be a huge bench piece for us this year. 12/30 from 3. 125 points. Didn't even feel like we were firing on all cylinders offensively. I used to pray for times like these. Quote
CTMagicUK Posted October 23 Report Posted October 23 I'm so excited for basketball to be back I keep forgetting stuff, pretty bad Isaac cameo in this. That extension looking bad. Quote
Luke_FfS Posted October 23 Report Posted October 23 I'll take the W, season opener at home it's always tense, we beated them twice in preaseason without a lot of problems, but real games are different. Will be a lesson learned for the future plus the W, so I cannot complain. 39 in the first quarter is not good enough for us and never will be, we need to set the tone early. Shooting 40% from 3 is a great news, but considering that the game shouldn't have been that close. Go on the next one. Quote
JJZFL Posted October 23 Report Posted October 23 It’s hard to win games in the NBA. I’m happy with the win. Only one game, so I don’t want to overgeneralize too much, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we have some learning ahead of us on balancing a faster offense without sacrificing too much defense. I know it’s hard for a rookie to get playing time with the depth this team has, but I agree with those who hope to see Richardson on the floor. Quote
All Eyes On Me Posted October 23 Report Posted October 23 I want to highlight one play in particular we haven’t had the ability to do in years, if ever. Down 7, 5:50 to play, nothing going right or developing on offense. Bane calmly and confidently pulls up from 30 feet and drills it right between the eyes. This guy is gonna wind up being worth every thing we paid for him and more. Quote
