2025 Summer League Thread

Our summer league squad isn’t the best overall. I couldn’t watch most of the first half. League pass was malfunctioning. 

i don’t understand our two way player Thompson. I don’t think he’ll ever have a chance at minutes. Similar to MacClung. 

I see upside in Jase. Wondering how much that ankle is bothering him. 
Penda looks solid. I like the Bball IQ. Yes he’s slow footed. His ceiling is a mix of Boris Diaw and Draymond Green. As a second round pick, that would be great. 

TDS is a solid role player, wish he had bulked up more. Why isn’t Jett playing?

Thompson trying to be the go to scorer, while on the floor with TDS and Jase, is diabolical. We had a chance to tied the game late in the 4th, Jase had it going, and this guy is playing hero ball. He should be trying stuff the stat sheet like Penda, yet, he's trying to be the leading scorer in SL. Like that's going to get him on a NBA roster.

Weltman needs to change his formula on the two-ways. He tends to bring in the same type of players every year. I would've liked to see a shooter next to Jase in the backcourt.

Quite surprised at some of the guys who didn't see the floor. 

I always forget how diabolical SL basketball actually is until I watch some.

Also I wasn't impressed with Kylor Kelley or Wendell Moore Jr and those guys would have been my first two guesses for 2 way guys. 

Similarly Nate Santos, who we gave an Ex10 to and will be with us in preseason, also didn't look much. 

Summer League is crazy every year I see the roster and am like "oh these dudes are the ones to look out for" and then every year those dudes rack up DNP-CDs or play 10 mins while we watch some randoms suck it up. 

It feels like there's some very specific way that this team approaches Summer League (because the summer league squad generally has the same vibes and make up every year) and yet I can't for the life of me figure out what it is or what it intends to accomplish. Maybe deliberately sitting guys in games to see how they cope and root for their teammates because they're going to be on the bench a lot if they make the NBA? Maybe just know that the guaranteed contract guys are only going to play a couple games so they split out minutes to get a longer look at more players? I don't know.

exactly my take on Thompson! dude tryna be a go to scorer. I don’t think that is a well advise approach to earn a NBA contract as a GLeague player. 

I wish Labissiere was younger. Always liked his game. He just had an unfortunate career and now it’s too late. 

Wendel Moore is actually solid, wish he could shoot the ball.

The Hornets got a steal in McNeeley. That injury killed his stock and Charlotte brought the dip. Big fan of the kid. He's a dog.

You know from all season I'm right there with you on McNeely. Was very surprised the league thought so low of him. The draft talk around him was so dumb, being compared to other white shooter types and then discussed as an inefficient shooter. When a) he has so much more to his game than like a Corey Kispert and b) he'd been a good shooter his entire life but had like a 20 game slump on a bad ankle. 

His pre-draft honestly reminded me of Tyrese Maxeys where the one inefficient  college season as a shooter seemed to hold more weight to the league for some reason even though everything else (including previous jump shooting track record) suggested a much higher calibre player.

#Magic rookie Jase Richardson, who re-tweaked his right ankle during Thursday’s summer league game vs. Sacramento, is “feeling good” and went through “pretty much everything” during practice Saturday, Orlando coach Ameer Bahhur said.

Penda has a good feel for the game. He seem to make the right play all the time. I just wish we had better players on the floor with him, Jase and TDS.
