hootie249 Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 If we are gonna talk about trades that won't happen, at least make the right ones. Garland, Brunson and Haliburton are better fits then Luka. Quote
Shine88 Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 https://hoopshype.com/lists/2025-nba-free-agent-rankings-the-best-players-available-this-summer/ Ty Jerome or Gary Trent Jr. and Jake LaRavia (Caleb Houstan replacement). Quote
Luke_FfS Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 Great to see that we're already in market mode short after the elimination! :) I'm honestly still quite depressed. Especially because we can make all the names we want, but even with FO recent words, I'm not that sure that a lot will change, sounds like empty words to me at least until facts will follow. I expect one trade at max honestly, plus the usual draft activity. About FA, the summer to make a move was last one, now I doubt we'll have a lot of cap space to sign any of them, we would need a lot of moves to create it, and it's not likewise. I'm not worried about that either, as all those guys that are exploding in playoffs... they're usually the ones that you'll overpay and regret. We discussed to death what this team need, and watching the other playoff series, with guys that makes incredible 3's, it's even more evident. One thing that I would love to add is smart guys, those ones that maybe are not uber-athletic as our FO always search, but are always able to make the right read in each play, both on def and off. Just an example: how good a simple and cheap TJ McConnell would have been to put order in our offense and bench unit? I've always loved Jrue, but I agree that doesn't fit our timeline, and it would be a risky and a bit costly move. What about searching the next Jrue in those players that are buried in other team benches, or in other leagues? Same was valid for KCP: you don't need to pay 20+m a 3&D player just because he has playoff experience. You can find a similar version searching in the deep market. 1 Quote

If SA believes Fox is their answer at PG and their FO decides they want to start competing for a championship starting next season it could happen but you’re right not holding my breath. Maybe we get lucky and Luka asks to be traded to Orlando! They actually might trade Castle. But it will be for Giannis or Zion. Quote
CTMagicUK Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 Some guys I'd consider looking at as free agents (any free agent is going to be a bench player the absolute max we'll have to offer is 14.1mil in year 1 with the MLE, any big moves will have to come via trade): Amir Coffey Caris Levert Malcolm Brogdon (for cheap only, it'd be a gamble that he's better than this past, very injured, season) Nickeil Alexander-Walker Gary Trent Jr. (Feels like I've mentioned him every summer for years, I've cooled on him dramatically but as a bench shooter/scorer I'd be down) Jake Laravia Taurean Prince Javonte Green Paul Reed Some RFAs I'd be interested in if they were available for a sign and trade: Santi Aldama Quentin Grimes Sandro Mamukelashvili Herb Jones One thing to note: I'm really not a fan of any of the PGs available this summer. Tre or Tyus Jones would probably both be an upgrade over Corey Joseph but I don't really think they move the needle much, they'd be fine but I'd be concerned about the defense, Corey tries really hard on defense despite his limitations. It's hard to speculate on trade targets because we don't even know who'll be available or if we could get them but hopefully that's where we make the bigger moves. Quote
Shine88 Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 NBA exec on Grizzlies: The Marcus Smart trade killed them The Grizzlies have tried to take big swings in the trade market at various times in the last three years, including engaging the Phoenix Suns on Kevin Durant this year. However, the biggest one that actually got completed was dealing Tyus Jones and two first-rounders for Marcus Smart when he was just past his sell-by date in the summer of 2023. It’s somewhat ironic given that the Grizzlies have nailed so many small moves in the same period. “The Marcus Smart trade killed them,” as one rival exec put it, costing them draft assets and a $20-million salary slot for a whole lot of not much. On a roster that couldn’t afford a miss once Jackson, Bane and Morant graduated to expensive veteran deals, Smart was nearly dead money. He was neither healthy nor happy in Memphis, and his level of play dropped off even when he was active; the Grizzlies ended up giving Washington another first just to move off the last year of his deal. – via New York Times This is something I hope Weltman avoid this summer, going after players past their "sell-by date". They got to hit on the moves now that Paolo, Franz and Suggs are entering their new deals. Quote

FA list for me: - Schroeder (damn near perfect fit for Orlando) - Kennard - M. Beasley - Trent Jr - D-Lo - La Ravia RFA (sign and trade) - Cam Thomas - Naz Reid - D. Mitchell So if we could bundle our assets KCP, Cole, WCJ, Jett and make a splash for an impact player i’d be happy to add Schroeder, Kennard, La Ravia via FA Quote
orlandoholic Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 i wonder if Memphis is willing to trade JJJ. They have some cap issues going forward. JJJ would be a perfect fit for us. In the Coaches offense, he doesn’t need JJJ skill set. Maybe a package of WCJ, Cole, Jett and a bugloss of picks would entice them. I just don’t see how that team will be willing to extend JJJ for the money he’ll be asking, if they are not contending at the same time So trade for JJJ and add Schroeder and Kennard via FA and call it a day. CTMagicUK Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 Screw it I'm just going to throw out some interesting (not necessarily "great", just interesting) names for trades even if there's no shot at them or there are issues that might stop us from doing it (some of them aren't even big names tbh but would be interesting bench pieces): Trey Murphy III Colin Sexton Marcus Smart (if we can buy low he might be really motivated in a contract year) Josh Green Tyrese Maxey (definitely not happening) Cam Johnson Ochai Agbaji Jakob Poeltl Devin Vassell Devin Booker (definitely not happening) Anfernee Simons Deni Avdija Coby White Keegan Murray Trae Young Desmond Bane Quote
