Dude is a train wreck as a PG. He makes it hard to watch this team without Paolo. Forcing everything.

Black was as good at leading the offense tonight as I’ve ever seen him.  Maybe better.  Give him the keys, in my opinion.

i guess we have a moral victory!! yeah!!

Two things that pisses me off.

1. we gave up almost 40 points in the first quarter. We down by 20 again. Looked like another blow out. This trend cannot continue and must stop immediately

2. Hero ball to finish the game. Franz can’t even make wide open 3s consistently, so stop the freaking step back 3s. I know he’s got the contract to suggest he can do that, but dude needs to stay in his lane

Something encouraging

1. We came back from that big deficit and managed to play through some sets.

2. KCP looked like Denver KCP

Another loss, but at least I've seen a different energy.

I don't blame Suggs for those problems, he's a SG, plain and simple, with experience and training he could become a PG (or a secondary PG), the problem is FO asking for that now.

I agree with your post. Suggs is an awesome player but he is not a natural point guard. This team was designed to have Paulo be the primary ball handler.

At least Franz had a decent game.  The East is doing us a favor right now.  Look at the standings.

I'd give you an upvote especially for the hero ball comment but I'm out of votes for today.

I've been complaining about the hero ball at end of games for a couple of years now.  We simply stop passing and expect the "stars" to take over.  We were doing very well with AB driving and dishing and then it all stopped with a few minutes left and basically only Franz and Suggs were involved with the offense, which didn't work out well.

Add:  I was yelling at my TV when Franz took that awful step back 3.

I don't see him ever being a PG at this level. He wasn't even a PG at Gonzaga, Nembhard was. He just doesn't have the IQ nor ball handling. This PG experiment has been worst than the Victor Oladipo one, and Victor was more skillful than Suggs on the offensive end. It's reminding me of the Aaron Gordon PG experiment and we all saw how that worked out. I think Suggs is an elite 3&D SG, and if we can pair a scoring guard in the back court, it'd unlock a lot of things in this offense.

i wouldn’t compare it to the Oladipo experiment.

This time around, the whole idea of Suggs playing PG is based on that the offense is supposed to run through Paolo (similar to Denver, Denver as well don’t have a real PG. Murray is more of an SG as well)

So with Paolo going down, it changes the whole gameplan. We are just not built for what we are trying to do now.
Is it on the coach? I don’t know. But it’s always risky to only have a plan A as a concept. Some NBA teams do and they suffer if their main players go down.

You take Curry out of the Warriors and they are a lotto team,

You take Lebron off the Lakers and they are a lotto team

If Jokic would go down, Denver is a lotto team.

So yeah, it would be too risky for me. I still think we need that second playmaker and scorer. It’s just not natural for Suggs and Franz to fit in that role. Franz scores a lot because he is great, but he is no scorer! Does that make sense?!

Paulo himself has said he doesn’t want that role, that he’d like someone else to “set the table”.  So if we want to keep him long term, it would be advisable for us to find a point guard.  I do think it’s possible AB could be that guy if we allow him to be.

If i remember he said he don’t want to be a PG. But i do believe he wants to be an offensive hub and that’s what we were doing. He was kinda supposed to be our Jokic.

Suggs even said something about this in one of the interviews last week. He said that they were playing through Paolo all camp and now he’s gone and they have to learn how to play together

My starting without Paolo and WCJ would be

AB, Suggs, Wagner, Isaac, Bitadze

bench

Cole, KCP, Harris, TDS, M. Wagner

Howard competes with Harris. Howard competes with the minutes of Harris. But Howard showed little besides shooting. His defense was really bad, the attitude seems weird as well.

Paulo said he wanted someone to set the table for him.  I interpret that as him not wanting to be responsible for initiating the offense.  I kind of hate the idea of making one person the focus of your offense, anyway.   What if they’re injured or triple teamed?  And how do you get everyone else involved if you do that?

Certainly don’t want to have most of our team with the mindset that they should just get the ball to Paulo, Franz, or Jalen, and then their job is done on offense and they can all just stand around and watch.

Paolo does not have Jokic’s vision or passing skills. This is definitely on the coach by forcing Suggs to play point. He is NOT a point guard!  AB is the only player on this roster whose game is slotted to be a point, at this level can AB handle it and be successful? who knows. But a smart coach would take that risk, because he would know by now who Suggs is.
