Just imagining how we'd have felt if in 2010 Otis Smith had, without any notice, while Dwight was happy, traded Dwight Howard for like Joe Johnson or something.

EDIT: Joe Johnson is a little harsh on AD but I think the point still stands.

Might be a bit hyperbolic so I apologize, this kind of thing catches me flat-footed...but doesn't this send a message to all the non LA/NYC/BOS teams that "while we appreciate you trying, we're not really interested in *you* winning and will instead try to ensure our golden calves are always on top"?

I gotta say as a Magic fan it's disheartening sitting here knowing full well we'd never be able to trade Gary Harris and Cole Anthony for Ant Man.  Long term, does this harm the brand?  When the other teams' fans realize they're never really going to be able to compete like that, do they give up?  Can the NBA survive with just 3 fan bases supporting it?

 

Like I said it's probably a bunch of hot noise.  I'm sure in all the other sports leagues these kinds of trades happen all the time.

I just watched last night's game. I took it out before the end, because it was impossible to watch. I'm tired of analyzing these ****ty games... Basically the same as the Portland game. But against an even worse opponent.
The team is falling apart and I'm starting to lose faith in what we can do this year, with this team. I wish Weltman would get off his ass and do something.

The only good thing is that we are not the Dallas Mavericks.

Eh I wouldn’t bash Dallas they actually have a Championship while we’re still on the outside looking in. Unless Weltman gets off his ass and facilitates an LA-Dal type of deal or at least give us a competent PG for f’s sake this is unfortunately another lost season.

Nico Harrison, the Mavs GM, didn't even speak to the rest of the league! He offered a 25 year old MVP candidate fresh of leading his franchise to the God damn finals to the Lakers for 31 year old AD and a single first round pick. If he did this of his own accord he needs investigating for corruption or something. If this came from the Mavs ownership he's the biggest moron in the world for not immediately resigning when they asked him to trade a top 2 player in franchise history.

The only defence I can come up with is that their GM (and/or ownership) wanted to get this deal done before the media caught wind of it, or another organisation leaked the information that the Mavs are wanting to trade Doncic. If that news got out, then there would be a lot of negative press heading their way and they’d be fighting battles on multiple fronts.

That said, I question how this trade gets passed when other trades have included significantly more. I mean, sure, Davis is a hell of a player and the Mavericks should get better defensively, but the Lakers got prime Doncic for Davis and a first round pick. The Mavericks got fleeced, unless of course they win championships with this lineup and the Lakers win nothing.

If you leak the information and the media knows you are trading Luka, you receive a lot of better offers. That's the thing: nobody knew Luka was in the market. And Dallas didn't have any rush to make a deal. I don't see any good reason to do what Dallas did. Bad press? That's what the Mavericks' GM gonna get starting today, be sure of that. They don't even control all their picks for the next years 

I'm angry, but I can't imagine how mad I'd be if I were a Mavericks' fan.

I just found out. This is the craziest trade I’ve ever seen in my life.  Dallas was just in The Finals.   I hate The Lakers so much!

NBA = WWE. If you can’t see it now, you never will. It’s naive to think this league is any different. It’s also why the NBA is losing fans in droves. All it’s become is entertainment, that’s it. No true competition, that ended years ago. If it was ever that at all.
