2024/2025 General Game Thread

My overwhelming thoughts after watching that game were "oh no Jalen please" and "who would ever trade for Cole Anthony?"

AB was nice.

SGA had the weirdest game I can remember from a star. First half like prime Jordan, second half like prime Cole Anthony.

It’s an expected loss. The team showed heart though.

Things to improve/ observations:

- WCJ can’t take advantage of mismatches. It’s crazy. He was guarded by a guard for the majority of the game. Him not posting up and dominating, creating space for cutters makes him a liability on offense.

- Coach rarely takes timely timeouts to change to course of the game. Two times in this game he let the lead go 10+ points and out of reach for us

- The team settles for threes too much. The team is at its best when it drives to the rim, but we tend to settle and we are not good at it

- The team is cursed with injuries

- Jett Howard is in coaches doghouse. I don’t know what’s going on with his situation, but we are destroying his confidence. Jett Howard in Orlando is done. Same goes for Cole. These players thrive on their confidence and piece for piece we are cutting into that confidence. Cole has regressed tremendously in that aspect. He was a clearly better player in his first two season. Right now, he’s even struggling to get into the paint with his dribble. Confidence is at an all time low.

I agree with all the points you made above. To expand on Jett the main reason he is in the dog house in my opinion is because he looks completely lost and outmatched on the defensive end. Does he try to stay in front of his man sure but he routinely fails to do so. He also hasn’t been hitting his open 3 point shots so if he can’t make those then he’s as useless as Caleb Houstan is for us right now.

Cole desparately needs a change of scenery. He’s broken. He’s unplayable when we really could use him the most.

Cole’s so hard for me to watch. The fast break where he over-dribbled and then refused to pass when we were 5 on 4 showed his natural selfishness on the court. Given how many years he’s been in the league, it’s shocking.

I'll take the positivities again: OKC is a clear contender, and we remained into the game with all the problems we have. Moral victories doesn't increase the W column, but tells a lot about where the group is heading.

If Paolo and Franz remain out and Jalen misses time too, we’re gonna have a lot of these moral victory situations, because we’re not gonna win many games. Good thing we have a bit of a buffer built in.

Jett Howard plays the type of defense where he's doing the bare minimum to look competent on the ball. He never actually makes anything difficult for anybody he simply just makes sure he's still in the frame when the guy scores on him and then he can do the "damn what can I do?" Shrug.

SGA hunted him mercilessly when he was on the court last night and just took a couple dribbles and pulled up. And I get it you get to be like "damn this dude just pulled up what can I do" but like, make his life hard, climb into his handle, swipe at the ball, be tough. This dude plays with Suggs, AB, KCP, Franz every practice you'd think some of it would rub off on him.

Yeah, and I see a lot of complaints about Mose’s short leash with him, but Mose isn’t gonna play you if you don’t bust your tail on defense, especially as a prospect. I’ve got a feeling Jett isn’t gonna be on the team much longer.

I 100% agree about Jett. I have the same sentiment. I don't know what others are seeing that they want to see more of him.

That's what I alluded to in an earlier post last night during the game. I said Cole was starting to play hero ball because, as you said Soul, he played 5 on 4 . He kept the ball and dribbled the ball all the way to and under the basket with the intent to lay the ball up while 3 or 4 of Okc's players hovered over him. He was determined to score a basket instead of passing the ball to his teammates.

yeah for all of the reasons above it’s clear that Jett and Cole are both done here. Cole is a great glue guy, but at some point he’ll grow frustrated and that will also do no good in the locker room. Better break it up now and sell the team that they are giving him an opportunity to proof his next contract.

We’d actually do Cole and Jett good by trading them. I don’t think there will be frustration ms within the locker room.

Cole, Jett and G. Harris need to be packed in a deal.
