2024/2025 General Game Thread

Recommended Posts

We're off a series of good starts since Joseph is starting, and that doesn't seem to be casual anymore. Too bad that this time it wasn't enough (we still miss Cole, not as a starter but as a off the bench scorer). Another thing to add to our weird season: we're suddenly a team that win away and lose a lot at home.

Everytime we have lineups without Paolo and Franz, another kittend die. Please be careful, coaching staff.

Sometimes I think of how all it takes is an AAU style 2-3 zone to make it impossible for us to score, and it makes me sad.

I saw that, and I made a comment, after a game we lost, how there are teams that are playing zone against the Magic and are successful at it. They use it because they know that they can keep Franz and Paolo out of the paint or from bullldozering their way to the rim to score. The strategy is also to force the Magic to attempt to score further away (3 pt. shots) from the basket.

Part of our struggles is that Mosley is throwing darts at different lineups all season.

Paolos mum is right. And our coach doesn’t seem to change one bit.

I agree with the bolded statement.

Regarding the lineup adjustments, in fairness much of that has been due to injuries.

Back to this low energy junk. Like it's preseason in October.  It's like semi tank mode perhaps folks. If this is the case, then that is a shame quite frankly.

I noticed it also.  At the start we were energetic, playing with pace and with space and with the pass, as Moseley said he wanted us to play right after he was hired. By the middle of the third-quarter, as they made their run, we were back to dragging the ball up the court, and dumping it off to Frantz or Paulo, and hoping for the best. I literally saw four or five of the Houston players in the paint when Franz or Paulo got the ball in that situation.  The change in our energy level and offensive execution was really notable.

Franz has been booty for the past couple weeks. Not ideal when we’ve got a 2 man team

Last night Plus / Minus

Paolo -7

Franz + 18

The Magic scored more than enough points to win this or any game.....I take 108 points every time they play.

Did the Rockets played zone defense? Yes. Did our coach adjusted by quickly bringing shooters to attack the zone? No. Caleb, our best 3 point shooter played 5 with no shots taken. WHAT?

Paolo more than Franz, I think, have this coaching staff confused on how to run the offense.

Nonetheless, still with good chances to get seed # 7.

I saw that too. It was so frustrating to watch. I didn't understand if that was the coaches' game plan or the team going away from what they were instructed to do.

I believe that some of the close games the Magic lost were winnable.

Of all my years of watching Magic basketball, I don't remember seeing that before.

I googled the 2010-2011 roster to refresh my memory. During that season, Stan Van Gundy was the coach. I don't remember 2 v 5 being played by the Magic. We had a good floor general in Jameer Nelson who could also score and we had other players who could spread the floor by making 3pt shots. See key players from that season below:

Dwight Howard, Marcin Gortat - center and rim protectors

Jameer Nelson, Jason Williams - point guards

Rashard Lewis, Ryan Anderson,  power forwards

Hedo Turkoglu, Quentin Richardson, Michael Pietrus - small forwards

JJ Redick, Jason Richardson - shooting guards

Plus minus is a worthless stat. Franz was terrible last night and Paolo was great, anyone that watched the game would agree

108 is only enough to win if the other team gets less than that :)
