2024/2025 General Game Thread

Agreeing with all the sentiments of if this is how we play when Cory Joseph runs point guard, imagine bringing in some one who isn’t a journeyman. All we need is someone to continue pushing the pace and that can hit open shots, he’s doing both well, and he should probably keep starting over Cole and AB for the rest of the season. We just can’t let teams get set in their half court defense or else we’re done for.

Also, Paolo and Franz are very very good. Paolo 3rd in the nba in ppg since the all-star break on good efficiency and shooting percentages. If he can hit free throws consistently at 75% he’s gonna be a 30 ppg scorer with his eyes closed

You guys,,,*sigh* (pause). You reluctantly give Corey Joseph a tiny bit of credit for an above average performance in last night's game. I say 'reluctantly'  because 1) you think he is too old, and 2) because he was only brought to the Magic to fill in the roster, 3) you feel he should only see the floor during garbage time in a game.

It was during the 1st quarter that the Magic had a 30 pt. lead, and it wasn't only attributed to the play of Franz and Paolo, but it was also due to Corey Joseph's effectively handling the ball as the floor general. In a previous game that we won he performed well also as the starter.

Well, let me ask you this: How has Cole and AB been working out for you, especially during the losing streak the Magic had been on? And how about other players like Jett Howard whom some of you have wanted to be given a chance to start or just be in the rotation. Well, how have those worked out for you? Jett has not performed up to expectations, and he has been given a chance to show what he's got.

I hope Mosley gives Corey a chance again to be starting point guard until a poor performance by Corey proves it is a mistake to start him.

Edit: As the saying goes: "If ain't broke, don't fix it."

As for Jett, and yes I think he should play more consistently, but also that comes with consistent playing time. In the last five games he’s has played 10, 9, dnp, 3, 10 minutes per game. How in the h e double two picks is that in the rotation?  He is a second thought in Mosely’s mind or a desperation tactic for more offense. When he does play he barely ever gets the ball in his hands.

Also, I called for Joseph to play early in the year after watching Cole and AB not changing their spots and actually understand how to play point guard.

Exactly! We need someone to continue pushing the pace as Corey Jacobs has been doing.

Both JJZL and I have mentioned how, in previous games, after the ball had been inbounded on the opposite end of the court, both Cole and AB had a habit of putting the ball on the floor and letting it roll on the floor until after they stepped over the half court line  Then they pick the ball up and dribble a few seconds before handing it off to a teammate. That's poor management because it gives the opposing team time to set up on defense. Especially those teams that play zone defense.

If AB is the point guard, the other team knows he is going to immediately hand the ball off to Franz and then he runs and stands in the corner. Franz becomes the point forward. In Cole's case, he is going to keep the ball himself and dribble, dribble, dribble to try to get into the paint for a layup. No ball movement to find the open man.

I’m still a fan of 21 year old Anthony Black.  However like most on here I think we need an upgrade this summer.  I would defiantly try to keep Black as a bench player though.

Jett is still lost on defense and can’t shoot (29.7% on threes).  I get why he doesn’t get playing time. Though I’d play anyone over Harris lol

Joseph just seems to play the basic role of setting the table, hitting open shots, and giving us serviceable defense. I'd play him in the starting lineup the rest of the year, too. As for AB, I like him but I'm not even sure he's a PG. And honestly, I'd rather not see Cole again on the court. Lol

Exactly! Thank you!!!!

By the way: When the Magic's second unit entered the game last night, that's when the Pelicans' backups went on a run and cut into our 30 pt. lead 10 pts+.

AB isn’t a PG at all. I’m honestly not sure what position he is. And he’s so raw. We’re ready to compete now and he and Jett simply are not. If a rebuilding team wants to give us a vet for one of them I’m tempted to do it. Colin Sexton, Coby White or Anfernee Simons are the dead horses I’ll continue to beat for that.

I think most of us agree with this and the above assessments.

Look at what the Warriors and other teams have done to make their team better. For example the Warriors added the veteran, Jimmy Butler, and it has helped to dig themselves out of a nightmare of a hole they were in.

Edit: I have heard of Sexton and Simmons, and don't remember watching them play, but boy, I would love to have Coby White on our team as the starting point guard. Man, can he drain those 3 pt shots with no hesitation.

Coby White has become a stud. Would love him but doubt Chicago lets him go.

He was maybe the only name connected to us at the deadline (by decent sources at least). Would have been a great timing to buy before him breaking up.
