Somebody please refresh me on the rules. Are you not allowed as a defensive player to touch the backboard, as well as the rim when the offensive player has released the ball? Or is it just the rim you're not allowed to touch?

Yes he did but it didn’t appear that it affected anything

I don’t think the goal-tending rule depends on it actually affecting; but it may actually have caused some movement of the rim and affected the bounce on/off the rim.

Yes, this team needs a true lead/point guard, instead of “combo” guards and trying to play through point forwards. I’m even thinking we need to give Cory Joseph more time when we are having this kind of disorganization on the court. I blame Mose for not making a move during the Toronto run.

I agree with this. I mean he waited until the game was basically over to put him in the game. If he puts him in sooner, we probably win the game. But that's all part of the process right now, I guess.

Touching the rim is, but it says something about moving the rim; so I’m not sure if the “base” is considered part of the rim in that instance.

I just checked as well. From what I read there is no violation for touching the backboard in that situation. At least not the manner in which he hit the backboard on Franz's layup attempt.

“Despite the franchise's first berth in the Eastern Conference semifinals in six seasons, the Cleveland Cavaliers dismissed coach J.B. Bickerstaff on Thursday morning.

Bickerstaff, 45, ushered the Cavaliers through a rebuild, winning 99 regular-season games in the past two seasons, but the franchise now embarks on a search that it hopes will land a coach to take Cleveland deeper into the Eastern Conference playoffs…

Cleveland wants a fresh approach, and president of basketball operations Koby Altman and general manager Mike Gansey will embark on a coaching search.”

Cleveland got bold last summer and look at where they’re at right now. I personally don’t trust that Weltman and Mose can lead us to a championship.

My dream? Hire Bob Myers as GM and trade for Kerr in the off-season to coach this team.

I agree.  Probably inadvertent incidental touching of the backboard happens a lot on plays close to the basket.

Not really impressed by Mosely’s comments.  Not critical at all.  Just review the film and make the adjustments.  He knew it would be a “back and forth” game.

In reality we should never have allowed ourselves to get so far behind a fairly bad team at home.  Even our announcers were commenting on our being behind in every “hustle” stat.  Mosley should have had more to say.

I agree, JJZFL. From the instant replay close to and above the rim, Franz clearly missed the layup.

But I'm not going to feel too bad about it. I felt sorry for Franz who gave it his all most of the game, especially in the 4th quarter. At the end of the game, he displayed his emotions and regrets for missing the shot as he bent over with his head in his hands, then walking toward the locker room without shaking hands. I really felt sorry for him.

On to the next game.

GO MAGIC!!!

It's all part of the process.  After all I believe that the focus is not on winning games right now. It's been that way since the beginning of February. The focus is all on the upcoming draft unfortunately. That's why nothing was done at the deadline to help the team as well. Just imagine how SVG would have reacted to this game back in the day?!

If that’s the case then France and Paulo should both be diagnosed with “injuries“ also. Playing them at this point it’s stupid and too much risk.
