2024/2025 General Game Thread

Well, it appears as though the Mavs did not let this surprise Luka trade effect their play today. They only lost by 43 points, 144-101 to the Cavs. Another team that drops a 140 piece and we struggle to reach 90 most nights! With all of this said, and all joking aside, let's not lose sight of the real matter at hand here. And that is the current state of affairs with the Orlando Magic. The focus should remain here and what needs to be done to help this basketball team improve. Yes, I know that the folks with the Mavs are making everyone else, including our FO, look like geniuses right now with this bizarre late-night bombshell. However, we must remain diligent and not lose sight of what is needed in Orlando.

Right now, we are on a 3-game losing streak and 2 games under 500. That more than likely will become a 6-game losing streak and 5 games under 500 after these next 3 games against superior opponents. If we just lost 4 games by blowouts to the Blazers and Jazz, there's virtually no chance against the Warriors, Kings, and Nuggets. This would all take place ending on February 6th, which ironically is the trading deadline. Do you think we will get something done and make any significant trades? Or will we stand pat and continue to hide behind the injury excuse? And now there is the Luka smoke screen to divert some attention away as well. None of this will change the fact that a true PG and shooters are needed here.

I’ve actually watched a couple of other games in recent weeks and it’s just astonishing how easy scoring is for most teams in the NBA and how hard it is for us!

I’ve said it before. If we barely score more than 100 points which is kinda rare, it is considered a great offensive game by us. For most teams it’s daily easy business.

We have to change. This type of defense is not sustainable and is really putting a lot of pressure on players bodies. I don’t think these injuries are coincidence. Our way of playing is not sustainable on a NBA schedule.

No chance on landing Fox now. He was just traded to the Spurs as part of a three-team trade between Sacramento, San Antonio, and Chicago. The Kings are getting Zach LaVine in return. To be honest, who in their right mind would want to come to Orlando at this point? The west is loading up big time. I guess the only good news is that the Bulls may be lottery bound now. That means unless we totally collapse or go into tank mode ourselves, we should only have the Sixers to be concerned about if it were to come to a battle for that number 10 spot. Although you never know. Sometimes a trade can spark a team and light a fire under them and make them play harder. As usual, given past history, I don't believe we will do anything at the deadline.

That's a good point about the type of defense we play taking a toll on players. Some may disagree, but I believe that it can affect your shot as well. Tired legs usually result in shots coming up short. Notice how many of our shots hit the front of the rim pretty often? Or sometimes we start off somewhat on fire from 3-point range and then suddenly we can't buy one. Fatigue plays a big factor. And someone else brought up a great point recently about how all of these bricks lead to easy run out attempts for the opposition. It's one thing to put so much pressure on Franz and Paolo offensively, but this type of defense not only takes a toll on them, but it also takes a toll on the offensive weapons they have.

The Warriors have averaged 115 ppg against them in the last 10 games. In all 10 of those games, they have given up 100 plus points. With the way we are giving up points now it may take 115 to win this game. What's the odds on us scoring a buck-fifteen?  Hey, if the Wizards can do it so can we! Right?

another blatant proof that the league is fixed for the lakers

shaquille leaving in fa, the gasol trade, now the doncic trade

they are getting all the great players in their primer. hopefully comissioners, both past (stern) and present (silver) and teams management (magic gm at the time, memhis gm at the time, now this idiot nico harrison) are all hold accountable because this is straight up laughin at people's faces.

this absurd league is a joke, is fixed.

nothing changed, not even with donaghy coming out

This Fox trade bothers me as well!! I knew a three team trade with Chicago would get it done, posted this couple of days ago. Kinda was laughed at.

We could have made a better offer, even if we had to include AB. But we had the picks to make it happen and also the talent that was sent. The Spurs didn’t even have to give up Vassell? Not even Sochan or Kelton Johnson?

Just Cissoko, Zach fckn Collins and Tre Jones? Are you kidding me?

The WWE league get their way and their new project Wembanyama just got a super team instead of constant loosing!

Too bad the NBA don’t like the Magic

Paolo's body language in the last game was awful = like saying trade me, I don't care.

Paolo, Gary Harris, Moe Wagner and any 2ds to match salary for Zion.

Team from there could / should not win enough and be in the lottery. Might find the 4th star with this pick.

Team will have a lot of assets to make move moving forward.

Whoah! Hold you horses. Giving up on Paolo already? He’s still on his rookie contract.

Just wow I can’t believe people are jumping ship on a 22 year old coming off an injury lol

He Is number 8 on Bill Simmons Trade Value Rankings and was number 3 on ESPNs top 25 players under 25 (Franz is 4).

I'm pretty sure that poster was joking, at least i hope so.

Anyway i still feel pretty confident Paolo will play like he did to start the season. Just need some time and this trade deadline is doing some voodoo on the squad. I wish the All-Star break was this week but we got to pull it together. The losing sucks but what's worse we just look awful right now.

Go Magic!
