2024/25 NBA Regular Season Thread

The Suggs injury is awful, plain and simple. The additional piece that makes this situation bad is that Weltman didn’t make a move for a PG at the trade deadline. That’s totally unacceptable. Either the doctors missed Suggs diagnosis, and they should be held accountable, or Weltman mishandled the situation, and he should be held accountable. Relying on Cole to be our starting PG as we try to build off last year was the plan? That is shocking.

I don't blame our staff for the injuries, a lot of them are not something you can control, and last season our health was pretty good and the staff the same (I believe)

But needing one month or so to actually discover the real Suggs problem is unacceptable IMO, in a professional sport environment.

I have been a medical provider for over 18 years and order several MRIs every day. You all are 100% right on this being a missed diagnosis. It’s not like they needed to worry about jumping through the hurdles of health insurance to get a MRI on a multimillion dollar pro athlete.

What a disappointing season this has been.

I agree with you all! I’m still shocked how this can happen.

We need answers and we need reporters that ask the uncomfortable questions!

I don’t think there is an explanation for this. This was just not looked at or misdiagnosed. Both scenarios are awful!

Im out of words on how this franchise has gone from one of the most promising young teams to a rebuilding type atmosphere.

We need an overhaul from the top to the bottom

Yeah, they’re either grossly incompetent or grossly mismanaging the teams and I’m honestly not sure which one is worse

It’s a new injury. He had just finished recovering from his back injury, and injured his knee towards the end of the first game he came back.

After losing him to “back spasms” on January 5, Jalen returned on January 25 for part of game only to leave it due to a “left thigh bruise” or “left thigh contusion,” depending on the report you read. Whether this latest injury was undiagnosed from the bruise/contusion or is from his rehab isn’t clear. What is clear is that our roster has been rocked with injuries and is very imbalanced. In all seriousness, I actually do hope we move on from Weltman this summer.

Josh Robbins: Jalen Suggs and the Orlando Magic are consulting with physicians to determine the best course of treatment for the trochlea injury in his left knee. Arthroscopic surgery is a possibility, Suggs acknowledged. When I asked him whether he anticipates returning before the postseason, Suggs answered, “My goal is to come back and play and help and impact as we get to the postseason and get into the playoffs. So, that’s my goal. That’s what I’m shooting for.”

The situation is a disaster! Even surgery could be required. This would mean it’s a more severe case.

If it’s a mild case they usually do plasma/stem cell injections. Dr. Müller Wohlfahrt is one of the most prominent doctors in Germany who does this therapy.

Well that said, Suggs was misdiagnosed. There is no doubt in my mind. He could have got the treatment from the getgo.

Two rare muscle injuries and a misdiagnosis. The medical staff needs to be changed

You’re right and I was wrong.  I thought the leg injury came after the trade deadline but it was like 10 days before it.  My apologies.

Your point about not acquiring a PG stands, even if they didn’t realize the extent of Suggs injury at the time.

I’d like to expand.
if  the injury happened 10 days before the deadline, they should have had the exact diagnosis at least 2 days before the deadline.

Does anybody know if a MRI was done back then? And if not, why not?

Any injury to the knee requires an MRI in professional sports. Just to check if there is anything more severe.

Not to make excuses for them, but didn’t they originally say something about a quadriceps injury? Maybe they didn’t realize it was the knee? It does seem kind of odd.

Terrible news about Jalen. For all that it impacts the team defensively and the energy aspect, which is something we have not been able to make up for during this entire streak without him nor Mo Wagner. I agree that the handling of the injury and all the lack of clarity about it is at least concerning. Once again.

I've been looking at the remaining game schedule to finish getting an idea of where we may end the year. We have 21 games to play, 10 at home and 11 away. Five are against division rivals and we could win them all (Atlanta twice, Charlotte and Washington twice). Nine are against western opponents, most of them on a western road trip that is going to be tough.

I think an achievable forecast would be to finish 13-8 on the season, for a 42-40. That would leave us somewhere between seventh and eighth place. It seems to me that Detroit in 6th is a long way off and unless they or Indiana went on a really bad streak, the gap to those teams is now -5 games. I see a play in game against Miami on the horizon.
