An all star selection is great and would boost his confidence further. He won’t be playing a ton of minutes anyway. 
but perhaps it would go to ball. Him getting top fan votes might get rewarded.

The AD injury update has to be such tough news for Mavs fans. It sure seems like Nico got tunnel visioned in that trade and didn't consider age, injury history, etc.

It looks like fortunately it’s not a serious injury though it might keep him out for a game or two “Left Adductor Strain”).  But on your larger point it sure seems like a very stupid trade for any number of reasons, including the ones you mention.

I just listened to The Hoop Collective Pod with Brian Windhorst. Windy thought we should have done things with our expiring contracts and picks at the deadline. He also said other teams claim they always have to call The Magic and that Weltman rarely makes calls or trades.  Worth a listen for those who aren’t fans of Weltman. He seemed to have a lot of sources.
