Listened to Weltman’s interview again, and here’s a big part I took from it

-He put out an interesting stat regarding Orlando’s three-point shooting, stating that when the Magic shoot 32% or better from three they have a record of 54-17 the last two seasons. That’s pretty significant. Unfortunately, there’s been far too many games where the Magic have shot less than 32%, which is well below league average. League average is around 35%, the Magic are shooting 30% (last in the NBA) this season. Weltman said he expected the team to shoot 35%, and has “never seen anything like this” with how many guys are shooting career lows. He cannot figure out why it’s been so bad this season, but suggested it could be a rhythm issue given all the injuries and lineup changes. To his point, he’s correct that on paper this team should’ve shot the ball much better this season. It is puzzling that it’s been this bad, the Magic are due to start shooting it better. Hopefully getting and staying healthy, will help Orlando find a rhythm heading into the postseason.

or in other words he is overestimating our shooting. Most of these players aren’t natural  good 3 point shooters. So for example, Wendel Carter Jr shot 37% from 3 last season. But that was his career high and he’s always shot between 18-35% throughout his career. So why does he think he’ll improve even better?

Anthony Blacks weakness out of college is 3point shooting. You expect him to be a consistent shooter in the NBA?

But i’ll say this, shooting is an issue, but not the main issue. Playmaking is. We are struggling to create open shots. The playmaking of Franz and Paolo is average. And that’s no knock on them.

Imo their playmaking is really good from a wing player perspective, but from a PG perspective it’s average. Look at the game against the Spurs. So many turnovers, bad passes and fumbled balls when dribbling in traffic.

Also we have shooters sitting on the bench. We can’t get Howard minutes, Caleb Houstan is a good shooter when spotting up.

So what we need is a PG that is a great playmaker but can also generate his own and a movement shooter who is comfortable shooting of pin downs and off the dribble.

Haha good!

haha why? They actually gave a good amount of assets.

Ok i see, Mark Williams couldn’t pass physicals for the Lakers. That will have a major impact on his future value as well.

Speaking of fair amount of assets. Watching this Spurs team, it’s incredible how they got Fox without giving up ANY rotational or young pieces of their roster. League did them really well.

trading for Fox and not at least giving up Vassell, K. Johnson, Sochan, CP3, Barnes is nasty work

I begging the league to facilitate Trae Young to the Magic. I accepted the WWE type style. So Zrae Young to the Magic is overdue, ever since he was a rookie and most fans wanted him

It's not puzzling, has been the reality in all past seasons, this season lower % could be justified by injuries and lack of stability, but with the same reasoning, last season when we were healthy we should have shot 40%.., clearly we didn't and were still bad on 3's and generally on offense. And Weltman words almost saying that it's basically bad luck are just refusing to admit his own fault and act to correct an evident problem. He couldn't say he has "never seen anything like this", fans are not stupid, this is what we've all seen in the last 350 games or so.

Gary Harris has missed 29 of 54 games. In the 25 games he has played he's scored 0 points 10 times. If he's on the roster next season the only possible explanation is he's Jeff Weltman's illegitimate son.

We did shoot around 35% last season from three which was good for 24th out of 30 teams, so hardly anything to brag about.  The year before we were also 24th out of 30, so the 3 point shooting has been a weakness for a good while, just not as bad a weakness as it is now.

And 28th the year before. For points made, 24, 26, and then two times 29th. Stats could lie in a short window of time or with limited data's, but don't lie over the span of multiple seasons. That's not even close enough to be a contender, much less to finally win the ultimate price.

Or possesses compromising images of him...

And he’s still getting brought in as 6th man on the games he actually plays. I truly don’t get it. He’s been either injured or garbage all season except for the opener when he teased us and hit a bunch of 3s against Miami
