(Wendell and stuff for CJ McCollum is super enticing to me honestly in this scenario EDIT: Wendell + Cole + Houstan matches salary for McCollum) Sign me up for CJ if we could make that work. We need some more offense because right now we are banking on internal development on offense. I like KCP but only think he helps a little for The 22nd ranked offense last year. Jay Magic 1,334 Report post Posted July 1, 2024 Magic update from Brian Windhorst regarding their pursuit for KCP and Paul George situation: “At the end of the day, I'm not so sure that the 76ers winning the sweepstakes for Paul George, as much as it is Paul George was limited to the 76ers as his option, especially after the Magic, despite having a meeting schedule with Paul George, went ahead and used their salary cap space on KCP, at least a lot of it, So obviously it's going to be a big moment if the Sixers can go ahead and close the deal. But at the end of the day, they were sort of standing alone with Paul George as his option.” Seems like KCP was the guy the Magic front office prioritized at the start of free agency. “The Magic prioritized this signing. They saw KCP out there, and they went after him even with Klay Thompson out there, even with Paul George out there.” Thoughts? Excellent work Weltman and AP and Co

George must love playing with superstars that are rarely available. Agreed. Also doesn’t seem like the FA class to build out a bench.

Excellent work Weltman and AP and Co I think Weltman probably understood from conversations we weren't really getting PG and we were leverage. What's interesting is this could have easily helped us recruit KCP "we chose you over PG" or whatever.
Soul Bro 1,505 Report post Posted July 1, 2024 10 hours ago, JJZFL said: Only problem with it is it cements Suggs as PG, as there is now nowhere else to put him. I don’t believe Suggs is a good fit at all as PG. KCP is a substantial upgrade from Harris, but who’s going to be setting him up to take shots? Harris often would take very few shots, once ball went to Frantz or Paulo it wasn’t coming back. How is this going to change? I think these are valid points and concerns. This signing doesn't address our playmaking need at all. I still love the value and culture fit, as well as the experience and skills KCP brings. Perhaps Weltham didn't see a true starting point guard in FA, so he scooped up a great asset to add to the mix. I still believe we're positioned for growth and a great trade when/if it becomes available. In the meantime, I like playing the cards we were dealt in free agency. Albert Lergier 112 Report post Posted July 1, 2024 5 hours ago, CTMagicUK said: Ok so the amount of cap room we currently have is dependent on the structure of KCPs deal (declining/increasing/flat salary) but let's say we're at 25m. Think that leaves us with 1 more "big" move. Then we'll likely use the remaining space if we have any to sign Joe above the vet minimum if we can (sort of a "hey thanks for coming back even though we declined your 11m salary here's 4m a year on a 1+1") or give him the vet minimum if not. And then I agree Mo Wagner with the room exception. Suggs/AB KCP/Cole/Jett Franz/TDS/Ingles/Houstan Paolo/Isaac WCJ/Mo 2 roster spots available if that's the case. Definitely need a 3rd big and then... I don't know what the last move is but it looks like it should be at guard. Obviously Hartenstein would change the equation because we'd all I think be expecting a Wendell trade. (Wendell and stuff for CJ McCollum is super enticing to me honestly in this scenario EDIT: Wendell + Cole + Houstan matches salary for McCollum) Would like to see Goga back as the third big if possible but I understand if he wants a bigger opportunity. More than 1 "big" move would be left to do if Hartenstein is signed. I think the FO should be brave and do it. This move implies Wendell will be traded for ???? For sure the Magic are going to get value out of this move. And then, it's almost certain Mo Wagner is resigned. And I'm sure there is cap left and maybe an additional player left to sign. Jon 36 Report post Posted July 1, 2024 Yeah it’s turning into another disappointing off season. KCP is fine. He replaces Harris. Cool. Still haven’t addressed our weaknesses…Kicking can down the road again.
