It'd be the most Magic thing ever to get the PG meeting, miss out on all the other free agents while we await his decision, and then he goes back to the Clippers and we're left shopping in the bargain basement. uff that would be tough.. Anybody interested in KCP and Hartenstein should make aggressive offers to secure them.. But i could also see the market waiting for that PG domino to fall.. In the case PG extends with the Clippers, and agents now this, they can get the best contracts for their clients from Philly and the Magic.
TreyMachine 423 Report post Posted June 30, 2024 2 hours ago, CTMagicUK said: I also think we're being used as leverage but it's not a bad thing that the rest of the league sees us in the conversation for Paul George. For some reason though I think he ends up in Philly, just a gut feeling. I don’t think the Clippers with a core of Leonard (33) and Harden (34) is going to be competitive for a championship at this point (if that’s what he cares about). If he cares about the money, he’ll keep a lot more money by moving to FL. If it’s about family, Orlando is extremely family oriented and a safe space for kids. Here’s where i think that we actually lose (and it’s a big one): his wife of a decade, Daniela, is an influencer. You look at her instagram and she loves going to fancy restaurants and showing off her wealth. This is NOT a place for someone like that who wants pretty things and that kind of clout. I could be wrong, but if anyone else here is married, you know a move somewhere is just as important to your spouse as it is to you, and I see her totally rejecting Orlando. My heart sinks thinking this could be the weight that tips the scale towards the bigger markets. Ugh.

It’s going to come down to if the Clippers feel the pressure (also new stadium) and ultimately gives him what other teams will offer him. If that’s the case, he’s staying.. If not, i kinda feel comfy. He doesn’t want to be in Philadelphia for 4 years. All i’ve heard is that he wants to stay in the West Coast.. So what if, PG, CAA have an honest conversation and says: „look PG will play for Orlando for a year and then he’s looking for a trade. Put Houston, GSW, Lakers or whatever enticing team on that list and get us there.“ Orlando benefits from the attention, the veteran presence the winning team and next year, we open to business. Houston could sign and trade Sengun and Jalen Green for PG for example. Its a wild scenario, but hey. I’d do a lot to see PG in a Magic jersey!
Luke_FfS 296 Report post Posted June 30, 2024 13 hours ago, MagicMan1979 said: You are correct in a perfect world. He is the top free agent by a lot. He is ranked everywhere as a top 20-25 player last year. Who is the nice fitting gaurd you would like? There are non in free agency. What move specifically would you rather us make? Just out of curiosity and for discussion. You don't make a move just for the sake of, even if it's the best FA available. As I wrote, I always loved PG and his game, but not now for us. FA's are often overpaid and not always a good solution. Just the most recent example, for the sake of discussion: I've clearly indicated in multiple posts, less than 24h before the PG hope, that I would have absolutely sent a similar package to Atlanta for Murray. How great White has been for Boston to complement Tatum+Brown. Murray could have easily been a White+ for Banchero/Wagner. We would have not lost a lot of assets, and still mantained a big part of our cap space, because we would have given salaries back. 4 years of PG at a max contract eat all our space as CT correctly indicated, and we have to live with this contract until he's 38? Good luck.

Plus Philly has the added benefit of being so close to New York.

Either they met with wives to discuss this off the record a while ago and they both liked each other regardless or… this decision is already over. tkranole 24 Report post Posted June 30, 2024 Gotta wonder how much Harden and Butler has been in PG’s ear about Philly ownership.
Jon 36 Report post Posted June 30, 2024 Probably both leverage and interested. He’d be closer to getting a ring here than LA. If we don’t sign him, I hope we do everything to land Trae Young. Walking away this off season with KCP and or Hartenstein would be a failure imo.
CTMagicUK 1,623 Report post Posted June 30, 2024 Call me crazy, but I like Jonas Valanciunas as much as I like Hartenstein. Valanciunas isn't as versatile defensively but he's basically been a starting big man in the NBA for the past decade and I think he'd be an elite bench big who could easily fill in for WCJ for the 30 games he misses. Lots of playoff experience. And he'd likely be half as expensive.
All Eyes On Me 1,347 Report post Posted June 30, 2024 I don’t like the idea of spending a boatload on Hartenstein or any other Center unless we’re trading Wendell.
MagicFanDan 125 Report post Posted June 30, 2024 I like the idea of trading Wendell, Cole and picks for a center. My 2 favorite personal targets would be Myles Turner and Jarrett Allen (in that order). If we got PG, you can make this trade still.
All Eyes On Me 1,347 Report post Posted June 30, 2024 Morning thoughts on the big day… We’ve had close to 15 years of consistent hurt since the Dwightmare. Very few things have gone right in that time and most of them have gone very very wrong. We hear us linked to our first big name FA in forever and the natural response is he’s using us to boost his value to someone else. I get it, and I’m trying to avoid feeling it too. Paolo and Franz have changed things, folks! PG followed Paolo on instagram a couple weeks ago and I believe they worked out together. We already have a good roster to sell to George, we don’t need to say “you’re the piece that’s gonna help us get more pieces” like Philly and LAC will. Also, PG recently spoke about playing basketball the right way as a desire of his. I don’t think he has any desire to play with Embiid and his foul-baiting BS. Not to mention Embiid’s health issues and the limitations that puts on the Sixers ceiling. I’m cautiously optimistic going into this evening, and regardless how it turns out, it’s a damn good thing for this franchise that we have a seat at the table for one of these discussions. It’s been a long time.
