Jonathan Isaac's new contract:

2024-25: $27 Million

2025-26: $16.2 Million

2026-27: $14.9 Million

2027-28: $13.71 Million

2028-29: $12.62 Million

Lovely jubbly

Well, that pretty much clears all of our cap room. I don’t think we can do much more than a vet minimum, if we are going to fill a 15th roster spot.

Edit: Depending on the order we sign things, we might have the mid-level

I just realized we are going to see lineups of

Suggs

KCP

Franz

Paolo

JI

The defense in that lineup will be hilarious to watch other teams navigate.

It depends on whether they can put the ball in the basket or not.  Rebounds often allow the other team to get out on offense before the defense can get set, which would substantially negate our advantage defensively.

Conversely, if the other team can't score on what could be one of the best defensive lineups in the entire league surely we'll be grabbing and pushing in transition and getting easy buckets.

This is 3 guys who all shot 37% or greater from 3 and played All NBA calibre defense with 2 guys who averaged 20ppg last season (one of whom was an All Star). Any lineup that includes Paolo and Franz will likely stay afloat on offense if the defense is good enough and the defense in this lineup will definitely be good.

This exact lineup with Gary Harris instead of KCP was +5 per 100 possessions last season.

In fact every single lineup that included both Gary Harris and Jonathan Isaac had a positive net rating.

Likewise there wasn't a negative lineup that included Suggs and Isaac. (One lineup was exactly 0 net rating)

Or a negative lineup that included Paolo and Isaac. (Same as above)

And there was only 1 negative lineup out of 7 that included both Franz and Isaac (a small sample size lineup that included Cole, AB and Mo)

Yes, it can work both ways.  And it kind of worked last season, at least during the regular season, although our offense was pretty stagnant even then (look at our offensive numbers).  Our scoring difficulties became more noticeable in the playoffs.

And we weren't really able to use our defense to generate fast break points against CLE, if I remember correctly the stats.

A few things to note as I catch up:

- Cole continues to be the hype man of this team. He’s always positive, in the middle of the group laughing, and seems to be a huge encourager. For a young team, that is one of the most important things you can have to keep a team together. I don’t see Cole going anywhere because his locker room presence would be so sorely missed more than his contract and on court play would indicate.
- Chuma I don’t think has much of a market in the NBA. I could see us giving him a two-way contract as insurance or maybe he goes to Europe. His brother is a residential broker with Keller Williams and for the past 5~ seasons had been the defacto real estate agent for everyone on the team (and others) in the market. I think Chuma would want to continue to be rooted here all other things considered.
- Joe Ingles I think does want to be in Orlando long term with his family (as he indicated he wanted). His kids are elementary/pre-school and from what I understand they prefer the warm weather. They bought a nice house here and overpaid for it to be in the location. My gut says Minnesota offered so much more than the Magic were willing to give (if anything at all) and so the family will stay in Orlando while Joe plays and works in Minnesota for one year and then he’ll move back. That’s my gut based on everything I know here locally.

All good info. Thanks!
