Not only over the summer actually! :P

You could say the same of me then, but I believe there's a huge difference between being realist (and critical when needed) than overly optimistic when the results and the numbers doesn't tell the same story. That doesn't make us less a fan of the team. I agree that the season is already a success somehow given the premises, but at the same time, reading some comments we look like we're on the verge on contending... and then the results doesn't really confirm that. Long way to go and a lot to improve still, in every single facet.

we would of made the playoffs if we didn't start injured  facts

Agree 100%.  I'm not sure yet what my criteria will be for a successful season next year, but most likely it will involve at least being in the play-in.

Can we count on internal growth to be enough to make this team a contender?  I suspect not, that we're still at least one star away.

A little bit too early to speculate about next year not knowing who are going to be the two 1st round picks, the free agent and or any trades that could take place before the season starts.

However, I do like our chances to compete and win a bunch of games next year and like 8 or 10 more.

Soul, does your comment suggest that the Magic might lose Cole through. . .whatever?

I just looked up the term "hedge" as it relates to business and the definition states: "Hedging is an advanced risk management strategy that involves buying or selling an investment to potentially help reduce the risk of loss of an existing position."

Yes, it was reported a couple of months ago in the media that Cole wants to get paid significant money, and Cole’s mentioned he thinks he’s a starter in this league. Thus, I could see WeltHam using MCW as a bridge backup if we trade Cole this summer. (And for the record, I’m not a big MCW fan).

I don’t understand the MCW move, I’m pretty sure he’s done in the league and I don’t really expect him to play for us at all in this stint with the team. I agree that we’ll be looking for a Cole replacement, but could see that being with one of our picks

MCW hasn’t played a game since 2020. Wtf is the clown show of an organization doing?
Oh, I answered my own question.

seriously we need more 30% 3 point shooting. Oh I smells chip. Cow Chip!!!

I overestimated he is  a career 25.5% shooter. Omfg!!!!!!

Will Cole be a free agent at the end of this season, and does a player have to be a free agent to seek a starter's money (that is, get paid a significant amount of money)?

The only thing I've got is MCW is a culture pick up. He hasn't played a game since his last stint with us and has actually had surgery in that time I believe.

But, he's been through a lot. ROTY to barely making teams. Having to rely on gritty defense just to keep getting minimum contracts etc. That experience can only be helpful around some guys who currently have the whole world in front of them in Paolo and Franz. Keep them balanced. He's got some playoff experience too (though not loads). If he plays at all I'll be surprised to be honest but you can say that about anybody in that 15th roster spot.

That same consideration could be made for every other team in the league, it's not like we're the only ones having injury problems. Most of those missed games were also due to FO being really cautious. So no, that's not a fact.

And I thought we were still making the playoffs! :P

Look i like the direction of our team but they have missed he boat on a ton of players for years. MCW? Maybe we could have picked up Monk in the offseason? A forum favorite for years and he just scored 45 to help the Kings  win and hopefully break longest playoff draught in North American sports history.

I mention Monk because recency bias but how about Alec Burks who torched us a game ago? He has been shooting over 40% for years? How about Seth Curry, why did we not get Luke Kennard?

I am mentioning low hanging fruit here. I'm not talking about the Kevin Durants or the Donavan Mitchells. We know this team would be better with a superstar, but how come we can't even get the cheap specialists? No bruiser in the middle maybe an enforcer like Brook Lopez? Why no 3 point specialist like Bogdanovic? I am just looking at yesterdays box scores throwing out names that the Magic could easily have. Tired of players mentioned on this forum, probably by a bunch of guys who watch much...MUCH more basketball then the people who run the team.

MCW? Really?

Quick edit because i like memes. I mentioned Brook Lopez. It's like the Magic are the mom meme.

Hey mom why can't we have Brook Lopez? Mom.....we have Brook Lopez at home.....Robin Lopez.

He won’t be a free agent but he will be extension eligible. And while we could keep him for next season and then make him a RFA, the concern for me is the various reports that he sees himself as a starter and someone who wants to get paid. The bottom line: I just don’t see Cole as a long-term piece in Orlando.
