Can he be waived at any time or does he have to be before he suits up again?

Yeah this is huge if true. I don't think there is anyway they do it before this season, but it would be amazing if they could just waive him after next season. If he never makes it back.

Honestly i just want to see the player he was before the injury. That player would be incredibly useful the way this team is shaping up. Especially if we finally get the offensive piece we have been waiting for in this years lottery. But if he stays injured it's nice having some protection.

We were 11th in attempted 3's last year, and 28th in 3 point shooting %.  Harris and Bamba were the only players above the league average of 35.4% (Franz was right at league average).  I don't see us getting out of the lottery until the shooting improves.

Can't just keep hoping to improve, even though that's the easiest route. At some point we have to start getting these specialists like  all other teams do. I'm talking if we draft another big man can we get a Burks or a Seth Curry or a Clarkson. We are always talking about stars in this city but when is the last good role player we signed? For instance even though we have Cole and Fultz as point guards this City can't go another decade without a point guard if neither work out. We really need to ditch Ross any way possible and either keep Harris or  pay for one of the lower tier guards on the Market. A good point guard makes everyone better. If Fultz goes out for any length of time next year it could get ugly. Suggs and Hampton are not point guards and while Cole is better then people here give him credit for, he is a chucker first and foremost.

From what I understand, O’Neale has two more years left on his deal at under 10k/year. I’d give up some package around Cole, Chuma or one of our high second rounders.

Second year seem to be an option.

I like him, but how many def guys that maybe could improve on offense we have already? Not sure he's the best fit for our needs.

I imagine there'll be guaranteed dates at some point but I don't know. It's unclear whether this is now set in stone (i.e. even if he plays all 82 this coming year - he won't - he still only has 7m guaranteed the year after) but that's the implication.

That deal might work out ok even if he never plays again because yes we'll have paid him like 40mil to do nothing but we'd have to pay somebody that money in these development years anyway and he'll have cost us nothing long term.

For the second year in a row Weltman got a 3rd place vote for executive of the year which I'm convinced is some kind of running joke between he and Masai Ujiri or something.

Rumors are surfacing that the Jazz may be open to trading some of their complementary pieces like O’Neale. If that’s true, we’d be wise to jump all over that. O’Neale is the exact type of versatile vet we need as a big 3 and D guy.

Read this: “O’Neale’s utility on the defensive side of the ball is not only by far the best on the team - his adaptability on that end of the floor rates him as one of the most versatile defenders in the league today. Per crafted nba, his “versatility” rating is 76 (0-100 scale), comparable with players like Robert Covington (71), Draymond Green (75), and Mikal Bridges (77).

It’s one thing to be tasked with guarding four different positions regularly. It’s another thing to grab that assignment and spike it into the ground like Gronk at the Super Bowl.”

I love Royce Oneale and maybe this trade breaks the Shaq curse!!! ;-)

These type of strategic moves move your team and roster forward.

I'd go T.Ross, (Hampton or Chuma) and our highest 2nd rounder for Oneale and Rudy Gay.

Is Royce O'neale (29) going to be better than Chuma (24) in the future?

No.....Chuma has shown flashes of being a tremendous 2 way player already and will only get better once the team is unleashed from the necessary limbo stage they are / will be for one more year.

Maybe he's auto-voting himself! :P

Which Chuma are we talking about?  Not the one who was absolutely awful offensively for us last year, shooting less than 38% overall?

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Chuma is out of the league in the next couple of years.  He regressed this past year which is a bad sign.
