2022 NBA Draft Thread

He's not lacking anything but mass. He does not strike me as someone who is fully finished with puberty either. His body screams "late bloomer" in that he has to catch up with his height. And yet he's already as good as he is. So you ask yourself the question of if this team is ready to win now. Maybe give it another season. Now ask yourself what Chet will look like physically by then.

I won't rip out my hair if the Magic don't draft him. But the argument to do it to makes sense to me

Edit: if the guy weighed 225 now no one would be talking about anyone else for #1. So get the guy to 225

A 225lb Chet is essentially a better shooting Evan Mobley.

Add Daniels to the group of guys I think we should work out. Will we draft him at #1? Certainly not but I think he'll rise into the top 10.

I agree with that assessment wholeheartedly. If we had to wait for his body to catch up it's literally not the end of the world. Cole is developing. Suggs is developing. Franz is developing. Fultz MIGHT BE "is what he is" but it's abundantly clear he understands what is happening here and isn't a flight risk. Wendell has been a tremendous get. And perhaps most importantly, Isaac can come back and never score a basket again in his life and we'd still be okay so long as he can shut down his nightly assignment. I'm legitimately okay with him as a defensive specialist because he was so damn good at it before he got hurt.

Why worry about Chet developing if we took him? We literally now have this year no matter what. You can ALWAYS plug Wendell in at 5 and kick Chet wherever you want and give yourself an out at another position. Fine. Don't put him on Joker or Zion where "he'll surely die" like everyone thinks he will. Just put him on someone else and watch him score 25 and snag 11 boards anyway.

It makes too much sense to me. The concerns are validated but he isn't done growing yet.

BUT!! God knows I won't cry if we draft Smith either. You'll get (basically) the exact same result as what I'm talking about. I'm fine with that but I also wanna see what Chet does with 20lbs of weight in 3 years.

He's gonna be unstoppable if/when that happens. He doesn't HAVE TO guard the biggest dude on the other team

Not bad measurements for Sharpe, I'd heard rumours he was closer to 6'4.

That is 6’4” when you’re 6’5.25” in shoes.

Jonathon Givony top 5 he’s hearing from NBA GM’s

Jabari Smith has an NBA ready build!!! He's perfect for JI  to back up for 20 minutes for the 20-30 games he'll last before getting injured again.

In your fantasies are these lineups getting blown out? Because he can handle the ball well for a 7 footer but he's not LeBron. And he can stay in front of guards well enough on screen and rolls but he's not going to stop them on an island in iso (at least he hasn't shown the ability to yet).

I like the idea of a Suggs/Franz/Isaac/Chet/WCJ lineup if we're getting funky though. All size, all defense, everyone (except Suggs who'll hopefully improve in the coming seasons) can pass, dribble and shoot to some degree. 3 solid to great weak side rim protectors in one lineup.

I think that a big part of Holmgren’s appeal is aesthetics and the fun you would have rooting for such a tall guy with a handle. I’m not sure he’s a winning player in the long run because he’s not quite as close to a prototypical wing player as Kevin Durant.

I see some similarities with European bigs like Marc Gasol or Sengun who have fun finding open teammates.

Some analysts I trust like Russillo and K. O’Connor have heaped praise on Jabari Smith so I would be cool if he ended up being the pick.

Holmgren is just a lot more polarizing but I think we’re in a good position to take a risk. Even if he’s a complete bust we would be cool with one or two big free agent signings

Holmgren is one bad ankle or foot injury away from being shawn bradley

He’s by far the thinnest guy I’ve seen enter a draft. It is scary, but I think he can survive at Power Forward. WCJ being signed for a long time would be a great fit at C

You're right I misread it as without shoes for some reason.
