That's actually true. For some reason I didn't compare his made 3s to other prospects I was just kind of considering it in a vacuum.

Haven't seen a lot of game tape on him what's his defense like? Seen some suggestions he's more of a shooting specialist than a 3 and D candidate but not necessarily from voices I trust.

Stepien has a detailed outlook on him that seems positive : https://www.thestepien.com/2020/01/31/aaron-nesmith-scouting-report/

Seems like he is a good athlete, but not great, with length and IQ.

I've watched some of his offensive game tape. Dude is a lot more than a catch and shoot guy. He shoots off a variety of different screens, he picks and pops, he can take a dribble and then shoot. I've seen him finish with both hands at the rim. I like him. I think he'd make a really good addition to the offense. Even if he's only a passable defensive player I'd be happy with him as long as his medical report is all clear.

There is some poor man's Klay Thompson in him. If Evan were to walk you could start Ross and groom this guy behind him.

In theory I like Nesmith as well, a knock down shooter would be great. But, I reckon Weltham will double down on a long defender with offensive upside like a Jaden McDaniels, Devin Vassel, or Josh Green to add to a core of Isaac, Fultz, Bamba and Okeke. That’s a nasty defensive lineup! My dream would be to either trade up and get Okoro or hope like hell he slips to us. (Tempting to add MCW to that  core going forward after last few games ha). We will have to add a couple of shooters over the summer though. Justin Holiday, Ellington, etc. couple of cheap vets.

That sounds a bit like name recognition hype, but it also sounds like something that'd be great if we actually managed to have fantasy play out to reality for once.

That guy Rashard Phillips should be a GM or some sort of NBA Scout. He knows his stuff trust me on that

Eh, I don’t know. It’s a small sample size, but in 15 games in the NBL, he shot under 30% from 3. Finding someone who can play off ball and create spacing is key, and I don’t think he’s going to do that until his shot becomes more consistent.

If Fournier returns, then I’d be fine with Hampton, but I might still prefer an Aaron Nesmith or Josh Green who are more traditional 2’s that we know can be good complements to Fultz.

I like Vassel, since he is also a 40+% shooter from 3pt both years of college - granted in limited attempts, but does project well.

Sporting News has us taking Vassell in their latest mock.

Quote

15. Magic — Devin Vassell, Wing, Florida State

H: 6-7 | W: 194 | Age: 19.6

The Magic have an affinity for long, athletic prospects, and Vassell could fit that profile. He's an intriguing 3-and-D talent who has excellent defensive numbers and should fit into a team defensive concept well at the next level.

Vassell also offers a bit of shotmaking from the perimeter. He connected on 41.7 percent of his triples at Florida State. There's a chance he's the best 3-and-D wing in the class.
