First round picks aren't that better lol, maybe we just suck at drafting

  • 2005 - Fran Vazquez (#11)
  • 2006 - JJ Redick (#11)
  • 2007 -
  • 2008 - Courtney Lee (#22)
  • 2009 -
  • 2010 - Daniel Orton (#29)
  • 2011 -
  • 2012 - Andrew Nicholson (#19)
  • 2013 - Victor Oladipo (#2)
  • 2014 - Aaron Gordon (#4), Dario Saric (#12)*/Elfrid Payton (#10)
  • 2015 - Mario Hezonja (#5)
  • 2016 - Domantas Sabonis (#11)*
  • 2017 - Jonathan Isaac (#6), Anzejs Pasecniks (#25)*
  • 2018 - Mohamed Bamba (#6)
  • 2019 - Chuma Okeke (#16)

In 2008 - Nicolas Batum, George Hill, and Serge Ibaka were all right after Courtney Lee.

In 2010 - Hassan Whiteside instead of Orton all day

In 2012 - Fournier was #20, but looking back hard to not notice Draymond at 35, Middleton at 39

In 2014 - Zach LaVine, Jusuf Nurkic were both taken shortly after #12

In 2015 - Did we think Hezonja was Luka? Myles Turner, Justise Winslow, Devin freakin Booker, Kelly Oubre,

In 2016 - Taurean Prince, Caris LaVert...or just not made that stupid trade and kept Dipo and Sabonis :(

In 2017 - could've picked Kyle Kuzma or Josh Hart

I get playing the "what-if game" doesn't help. But I think it does show a consistency in making bad decisions as an organization (multiple front offices since 2005) when it comes to drafting players.

Fran wasn’t our fault. Draymond is overrated. Redick, Lee, Oladipo, Fournier, Isaac and maybe Bamba are all good picks.

I've not followed this draft class closely at all but I like Saddiq Bey. He's the type of guy I think we need to be drafting to compliment Fultz, Isaac, AG. He's long, he seems like a good guy and he shoots the hell out of the ball. We could do much worse than him at picks 14-17. But there's also a chance we could do better, he'll be 21 by the time the draft rolls around and he's not the most explosive player.

I think it may depend largely on how management is leaning on our free agents and/or if Fournier and Ennis opt in or not. Almost all of our "optional" players are backcourt/wing players:

DJ Augustin - Free Agent

Michael Carter-Williams - Early Bird Free Agent

Wes Iwundu, - Restricted Free Agent

Gary Clark - Restricted Non-Bird

Melvin Frazier - Team Option

I am definitely leaning towards a backcourt player, preferably one who can play both guard spots. We also have to look at who may "fall" out of the lottery. My choices would probably be:

Killian Hayes, Devin Vassell, Tyrese Maxey.

Aaron Nesmith is my guy

Nesmith's shooting splits are insane this season. It's whether or not you think that's just an extended hot streak or legit. Also a stress fracture in his foot will be one you'd have to see a medical report on to be sure of it not affecting him in the future.

I think RJ Hampton is our guy if he falls to our range. A combo guard with insane upside who could slip on draft night due to playing in Australia and not having an NCAA tournament sample size to go off of.

I'm also really intrigued by Aleksej Pokusevski. He's a legit 7 footer with guard skills who can protect the rim, guard multiple positions, and catch and shoot. He has insane upside...

The percentage is extreme but the volume is pretty significant. He made more 3s this year in 14 games than Okeke did in 38 games last year. 82.5% FT over 2 years is a good indicator too.

That's actually true. For some reason I didn't compare his made 3s to other prospects I was just kind of considering it in a vacuum.

Haven't seen a lot of game tape on him what's his defense like? Seen some suggestions he's more of a shooting specialist than a 3 and D candidate but not necessarily from voices I trust.

I really like Josh Green. He reminds me of a guard version of AG in a lot of ways (and not just because of the Arizona connection). He's got a great motor, long, super athletic, brilliant transition finisher. He's got the potential to guard 1-3. He gets steals, hes a decent passer. His shooting %s aren't great but his mechanics look good and he's a pretty good FT shooter. He's a work in progress on offense which people might not like but he fits what we're trying to build I think.
