TrueMagicFan07 651 Report post Posted July 15, 2019 I have been reading up on Markelle Fultz's diagnosed injury--symptoms and treatment. I am a female and I am not an athlete, but after reading articles from professional medical outlets, I have a similar problem that Markelle has. My pain is a result of injuries I had in Feb. 2017 and Feb. 2018. The first injury was from a fall down steps. My head hit the floor real hard. I jammed the left side of my neck, injured the left shoulder, and sprained my left ankle. A year later, I was rear ended and it made the previous injury worse. Several years ago, before the 2 accidents, I was tested and diagnosed with nerve damage. I am currently seeing a neurologist and neurosurgeon and was told that the nerves are being affected by the neck and shoulder injuries. I was given 3 options for treatment: 1) physical therapy, 2) surgery 3) injections. The doctors do not recommend surgery. I have had physical therapy twice. The physical therapy helps, but I still can't lift or move things with the left arm without some discomfort. I cannot bend my left arm backward without discomfort. Thoracic Outlet Sydrome (TOS) "Fultz, 20, has battled injuries in the two seasons since he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 N.B.A. draft, and has not played since Nov. 19. He also missed 68 games last season. In a statement updating Fultz’s status, Dr. Daniel Medina, the Sixers’ vice president of athlete care, said that after a series of consultations with specialists across several disciplines, Fultz had received a diagnosis of thoracic outlet syndrome. A statement provided to ESPN by Fultz’s agent, Raymond Brothers, went further, saying that the diagnosis was neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome, which Brothers said “affects nerves between the neck and shoulder resulting in abnormal functional movement and range of motion, thus severely limiting Markelle’s ability to shoot a basketball.” https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/04/sports/markelle-fultz-injury-76ers.html Treatment for Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome If symptoms persist after physical therapy and injections, surgery may be recommended. Surgery can involve cutting small muscles of the neck (anterior and middle scalene) and removing the cervical or first rib. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/thoracic-outlet-syndrome Edit: I know that Fultz is young and an athlete, but this type of injury might hold him back--whether it's the beginning of next season, most of next season, or the entire season. Nyce_1 311 Report post Posted July 16, 2019 Can someone be hosting a basketball camp if not fully healthy? Someone call Junkie and have him show up to the 411 on Fultz.
