2019 Offseason Thread

Recommended Posts

With the injuries to Durant and Thompson, practically every team in the west must be thinking the right offseason move could put them in the finals next year.  The next 3-4 weeks will be pretty interesting.  Some free agents are gonna get overpaid, and some teams are going to sacrifice future draft picks to acquire players that can help them win next year.

Orlando shouldn't assume Vucevic's 2018-19 performance is repeatable. A breakout like that at age 24 is one thing. At age 28, it feels more like an outlier. Regression feels likely.

More than anything else, the increasing fungibility of conventional centers suggests max expenditures at the position should be reserved only for the absolute standouts with youth on their side.

Karl-Anthony Towns? Joel Embiid? Nikola Jokic? Maxes. No questions asked.

Vucevic isn't in that class, and Orlando has depth at his position.

If the Magic are going to build something lasting, something with a ceiling greater than 42 wins, they need to think about spending their money on something other than a 28-year-old center who can't be expected to repeat last year's performance.

Yep.

Previous 4 years vucevic averaged 17/10/2.7 on 50/31/74 shooting. It took 15 shots to get him those 17 points.

First 25 games last year he averaged 21/11/4 on 55/41/88 shooting. It only took 15.7 shots to get those 21 points. And with that level of offensive efficiency it doesn't matter what your defense looks like (and it was better than usual).

The last 26 games he averaged 21/12/4 on 51/32/81 shooting with 17.3 shots getting him those 21 points.

The middle 29 games are a slow decline between the figures. (I can post later)

So we shouldn't expect a regression because it already happened.

I heard we should know by draft night or maybe before if a trade occurs.   If Lakers do  select at #4 they have failed to get AD and they may not get a big time FA.  West conference is pretty tough and Lakers need help to have a chance.  Intriguing 2nd season coming up.

They could just select for a Davis trade later a la the Wiggins Love trade.
