Worst season in recent memory? Let me give you the recent history

2011-2012 -- 37-29 (3rd in the SE Division, 6th in the East, 12th overall)

2012-2013 -- 20-62 (5th in the SE Division, 15th in the East, 30th overall)

2013-2014 -- 23-59 (5th in the SE Division, 13th in the East, 28th overall)

2014-2015 -- 25-57 (5th in the SE Division, 13th in the East, 26th overall)

2015-2016 -- 35-47 (5th in the SE Division, 11th in the East, 20th overall)

2016-2017 -- 29-53 (5th in the SE Division, 13th in the East, 26th overall)

2017-2018 -- 25-57 (4th in the SE Division, 14th in the East, 26th overall)

2018-2019 -- currently 20-31 (4th in the SE Division, 11th in the East, 25th overall)

I don't think this is the worst in the last few years, I just think we've been showing promise in the last 3-4 and it just seems like we can't make the jump to that next level. I think the Magic finish above 30 wins this season and land about where we are now in the playoff race (10-12th). This season is difficult because of the hope of a better season but it isn't the worst in recent history because I feel like at least we have building blocks: possibly our first All-Star since Dwight and a bunch of talent we need to develop.

That's a whole lot of bad decisions and poor judgment in 6 years.

Add on top of that

  1. Stan Van Gundy (2007-2012)
  2. Jacque Vaughn (2012-2015)
  3. James Borrego (2015)
  4. Scott Skiles (2015-2016)
  5. Frank Vogel (2016-2018)
  6. Steve Clifford (2018-present)

Having the right man at the helm means something...Also have to wonder about...

  1. Otis Smith (2005-2012)
  2. Rob Hennigan (2012-2017)
  3. Matt Lloyd (2017)
  4. Jeff Weltman (PBO) /John Hammond (GM) (2017-present)

Executives

  1. Dan DeVos - Chairman/Governor (2011-present)
  2. Alex Martins - CEO - former president and COO (2006-present)
  3. Jeff Weltman - President of Basketball Operations (2017-present)
  4. John Hammond - General Manager (2017-present)
  5. Matt Lloyd - Assistant GM (2012-present) <-- our college scout
  6. Pete D'Alessandro - Assistant GM (2017-present)
  7. Jim Fritz - CFO (1995-present)
  8. Pat Williams - (1996-present)
  9. More here if you're really interested

Owners

  1. DeVos family

I really wonder what type of influence DeVos and Martins are having these days. I know they were really involved with the Dwight saga and Skiles...but haven't heard much of them since Weltman/Hammond joined. Would the Magic be benefited by a shake up in our Executive Branch?

I don’t think ownership is the problem. I think Martins’ biggest thing was rushing Hennigan and refusing to trade EP. Thwy try to stay out of it. It was the case where it was HEnnigan or Skiles. Obviously Skiles was right, but they had to back the front office.
