2018-19 Official Season Discussion Thread

Zach Lowe giving Ross some love at the end of his "Ten Things" column:

Quote

BONUS: Terrence Ross, stopping on a dime

Ross was quietly having a nice season off the bench for Orlando before ruining Jimmy Butler's Philly debut with a dagger. Ross is a magician at catching the ball at a full sprint, and snapping into a perfectly balanced jump shot as if he had been standing still the whole time.

Curious of the thoughts of the board on this one:

Given our team's recent success, should Iwundu continue to start, with Isaac coming off the bench?

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Issac will start again, probably sooner than later, but I’m not just putting him in the lineup. Iwundu has earned the right to keep starting until he starts struggling again or we come out flat and need a change.

As soon as he's off his minutes restriction we should be starting Isaac because we need to see him and Gordon together as much as possible.

We should be shopping Simmons though because iwundu deserves his spot

I think we should keep Iwundu in the starting line up for a little while longer. Last game was his best game of the season though- I don't think he has shown enough consistently for us to say that he should have a major role on the team going forward.

We should also be shopping Simmons before the entire NBA realizes he’s lost his Mojo

Now granted, would Ross effectively fill Belinelli’s shoes a defensive liability on the wings? More or less, but with great defenders like Chandler, Butler, Embiid, Simmons, Jonah Bolden, and Amir Johnson peppered all over the roster, that’s a whole lot easier to cover up than it was last season.

Lol they don't even know anything about him.

Interesting interview with Steph Curry's ankle surgeon about JI's ankle sprains.

Quote

“He’s a young guy,” Ferkel said during a phone interview with Orlando Pinstriped Post. “There’s no reason something can’t be done to ultimately get him back on the court without recurring injuries. If he’s been out this many times, I would certainly be very concerned where he is at and what the long-term solution is to his problem would be. Not the short term solution because he is only 20. If something needs to be done surgically, should it be done now with the idea that he still has a long career ahead of him and not risk additional injuries? Or is it safe for him, assuming he does his rehab properly, to go back and play. That’s always the question.”

Ferkel said there could be a number of reasons why Isaac could be suffering recurring ankle injuries. Each sprain further stretches the ligaments, which he compared to stretching out a sweater.

“Once you stretch your sweater out, it really doesn’t ever stretch back into exactly the same tightness. The same thing happens with a lot of ankle ligaments,” he said. “They’ll stretch out so much from recurring injuries that they get too loose. And if they get too loose, often times, no matter how strong the ankle is in terms of strength, sometimes rehab isn’t enough.”

You continue to listen to offers. If nobody blows you away with a deal and we're winning games you just hold onto him until the summer and let him walk.

But some team might get desperate and give us more than we'd imagine

Agree. Either utilize Vuc for this season to help us get to the playoffs and then let him walk after the season or hope another team is willing to trade a player at a greater position of need for Vuc on a deal that makes sense beyond this season. Wish there was a team with an expendable (but good fit for us) PG of equal salary value that needs a center.  Not sure that dream scenario exists.

Bamba is the future center and the Magic can't justify tying up long term cap space for Vuc, and blocking Mo's path to starter, no matter how well he is starting to play under Clifford.  So, Vuc's value may simply be the amount of cap space freed up from him walking at season's end.
