So what’s going on with Vuc, is it an effort thing? Because clearly he has the tools to be a pretty good defender, great rebounder and shooter, and pretty damn good passer.

I don’t get it ether. He’s playing close to par with Jokic this year, and is unquestionably a better defender. I think a lot of Vooch’s problem is that he’s never had a coach that is actually tough on him and it’s made him super sensitive to criticism. Maybe Clifford is fixing our mental fragility

It's always been an effort thing. There's been enough games over the years where we've been like "vucevic just dominated Portland's pick and roll on defense. Why can't he do that all the time?"

Add that to him thinking it's his team beginning in 2014 at the same time the league was moving away from that philosophy. It's taken a while for him to adapt to today's NBA.

Clifford has done a lot for him on both ends. On offense he's given him enough responsibility to play make but doesn't tolerate him just jacking up 20 footers with 19 seconds on the shot clock even if he's open.

On defense Clifford demands effort and holds players accountable for their defensive responsibilities.

I read an article a few weeks ago and in it Clifford said it's not enough to just get on guys. You can't just scream and yell about things. You have to be right and the player has to know you're right. We spend the vast majority of our time going over tape. So instead of Clifford saying "vucevic your defense sucks, play better" he's going into a meeting with him, highlighting the specific instances where he sucked, giving him video evidence of that issue, and teaching to it. Guys can't argue against that. They don't have excuses. They just have to perform. It's helped a ton. It's helped vucevic's defense. It's helped Gordon's offense (he's playing like a completely different player). Guys are growing.

Contract year. Centers that don't play defense don't get any love in free agency

Melo should save face and retire.  Its not working anymore.  He's done his time.

I think they should not

Agreed he shouldn't be viewed as valuable to a contender anymore. He should go to china for the pay day or if he insists on being a starter in the nba still, he should go to a bottom dweller like the hawks as a show pony

I feel like he could in theory still help a team during a playoff series if he would just embrace being a bench guy who plays 15 minutes. Maybe more if he gets hot. Maybe less if he’s not.

But his ego makes him nearly unrosterable. Makes you appreciate the HOF’ers like Duncan & Dirk who just did whatever helped the team win at that moment. Different generations though.

Wasn't cllifford the one that howard used to rave about when he was here? Saying things like he really helped him improve his game.

If so, then he may be a big men guru.

Eh. I mean there's still some value there as a bench scorer. He's had 4 pretty good games this year. If he played 18 mpg most nights with the opportunity to play more based on the night he'd be good.

The problem is he has no ability for self analysis. He still thinks it's 2012. He thinks he should play 30+mpg and get 18 shots per game. That's dangerous. The only thing stopping him from being Jamal Crawford of the past 5 years is himself.

Yeah. It's not like he sucks like late career Gilbert arenas. He had 28 points on 12 shots with 6 threes 6 games ago.

The problem is he plays no defense, 4 out of 10 games he shot 30% or less, and he's still averaging about 30 mpg and will become an issue if he doesn't get his minutes.

If he played to his role he could play for another 5 years. If he stays delusional this might be his last year.
