I don't like the hair either, but I doubt something like that would suddenly hinder Payton from missing a tear drop. I don't think I've seen him make too many of those anyway.

Yeah.  I'm not sure how much it effected that specific shot.

But you gotta figure it has a non- zero impact on his game overall.

Get a baseball cap, take the cardboard out of the brim, put it on, then go play some basketball. There is no way ANYBODY could convince me that his hair does not affect his vision in a very negative way.

I have had very long hair since the 70s. I played HS football as a quarterback and many years of baseball as a pitcher. I wore a ballcap with no brim under my helmet to keep my hair in and ponytail inside my cap to pitch. The HS basketball coach wouldn't take me unless I cut my hair off even though I could destroy every guy on the team except 1. I did play BBall in college with long hair and in a county league for many years but it was always pulled back. Hair is a personal choice, but it should never interfere with performance especially when you are getting paid. Pin that S**t back or something so it doesn't block your vision.

I don't think Payton's a bad player because of his hair. It might be in his way, or brush against the ball when he shoots free throws but even that might be negligible. There's way more muscle memory and coordination involved for something like that to affect his performance. Guy has been playing ball his whole life. I'm really not a fan of Payton's play, but the hair is the last thing i'd criticize him for.

I mean, do we really believe if he cuts it off he's magically going to get better??? that seems ridiculous.

He's been playing his whole life WITHOUT that much hair blocking his vision. Did you see the video from yesterday's game of his hair literally hitting him right in the eyes when he went up to shoot? You must not play because you obviously don't understand the importance of seeing and focusing on the basket the entire time you are going through your shooting motion or you wouldn't have said that. That's the whole reason that defenders want to get a hand in the shooter's' face to disrupt a shot.

Will he magically get better? I don't know but it definitely won't make him worse, so why not take a shot at it? From personal experience playing a lot of years of basketball I can testify that being able to clearly see the basket is really important to being a good shooter. That's why guys work so hard to get shots off without a hand in their face.

technically he's been shooting better (albeit marginally) since drafted. Maybe it is the hair...

He sucks, he passes up on open 3s because he knows he can't make them. Defensive players know that and slack off him point line at the 3 point line which puts more pressure on the guys that can shoot.

Payton hair gets in the way of passing lanes in transition, it bobs like fish are constantly biting. the back and sides look cool, just round it out like that and make it a crown look or somethin
