Hedo was a MUCH more reliable shooter and even though his D wasn't great he didn't look like a deer in the headlights like Mario does sometimes. It's time to let Mario be someone else's project.

I guarantee you if we do that, we'll be saying the same thing about him, we're saying about Dipo now.

Yeah he has some similarities to Hedo Turkoglu. I really want Hezonja to clean up his dribbling game. He'll be a solid player if he does just that

He is fine in the open court, but struggles in the half court- his dribble generally looks fine, but he has a tendency to make poor decisions- not knowing when to drive/ pass the ball off which results in turn overs.

Honestly, out of all of our top picks (all of the rest of whom turned out fine- Oladipo, Gordon, Isaac maybe), he, for some reason, has always been given the shortest rope to play on (though his mistakes can be very noticeable). I can't help but feel that some of his seeming lack of development is the fault of the team.

I think this is an interesting comment, and many agree with it. The thing is, Mario was getting decent playing time last season until the seemingly abrupt decision to “recalibrate” sent him to the end of the bench.  That decision has never been fully explained, we don’t really know what the reason behind it was. Could it be, for example, that Vogel gave him instructions to do some specific things on defense five or ten games in a row, and Mario either ignored him or couldn’t process the instructions?

I think we just don’t know enough to assess whether Mario has been on a short leash, or maybe is just unusually resistant to coaching.

He was just bad on defense.  He was on his third coach in 5 months and couldn't comprehend the rotations (or at least couldn't react to them fast enough). And he supplemented that bad defense with 30/17/67 shooting splits because he inexplicably decided to change his shooting form in order to shorten his release to get it off faster.

Bad shots.  Getting killed in film review.  Loss of confidence.  over thinking.  Bad play because of overthinking.

Lost season.

Dude needed to get forced minutes for development.  He was a victim of a lack of patience from management.

I believe he had a slight injury that he tried to play through as well, which didn't help. But basically he wasn't given a chance to get all of the suck out of his system. Look at a bunch of the young players in the league. Look at Buddy Hield, at Brandon Ingram, at Wiggins, at Dennis Smith, at Lonzo Ball. The list could go on and on- for every Ben Simmons, there are at least three or four players who struggle a bit their first few years.

I want to say though that through out all of this, we have barely if ever heard anything negative out of him- and that is something at least. He seems like a good kid, and, even though he is very unlikely to be on the team next year and seems less and less likely to put it all together as each season passes, I can't help but hope that he does.

This kid has too many tools and strengths to let go yet by not taking his contract next year I doubt he'll want to stay here if another team shows interest and promises him minutes. Weltman, Hammond, come on guys, if this is supposed to be an evaluative year then give the team some proper evaluation data. Play the high upside young guys.

Fans, ladies, trolls of all ages.  Imagine a lineup of Decent shooting point guard, Jonathan Simmons- the slasher and paint attacker and spot up artist, Mario - the whizzing playmaker and 3 point specialist, Aaron Gordon, the hard rolling slasher and 3 point assassin and Jonathan Isaac- the Stretch Armstrong defensive swiss army knife and nightly mismatch nightmare on offense.

That's 5 3 point shooters, 5 rim attackers,  and 5 guys that can move the ball.

I would trade Vuc and Fournier just for the chance to see if that lineup would become something. there's potential there, I have the vision, do you?

I'd take Hill. I am a EP homer and my times running or run out on him as our starting PG. Which means tonight he drops a Triple Double lol
