These figures are sick.  We are a top 3 defense team according to these numbers:

https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/preseason/team/Orlando-Magic/21/stats

you posted the wrong stats.

but the magic are holding opponents to 90.3 ppg which is 4th. they're holding teams to .364 overall field goal percentage (third). they're holding teams to .275 three point percentage (fifth). Also 1st in Blocks per game.

So while its a preseason and we're running off of tiny samples, these are encouraging signs that the magic might end up in the top half of the league for defense.

The Magic have been hard at work gaining insights about their roster this preseason and have already come up with a five-man rotation that they’re fond of. John Denton of the Magic’s official site writes that Frank Vogel particularly enjoyed playing Elfrid Payton alongside Jonathon Simmons at the two with Jonathan Isaac and Aaron Gordon at the three and four, respectively, with Bismack Biyombo at center.

That’s scary for other teams because there is a lot of athleticism out there and a lot of guys who can guard point guard through power forward,” Payton, entering his fourth year with the Magic, said. “There’s so much speed and athleticism there. Even though we’d be seen as a small unit, Jonathon [Simmons] is athletic, Isaac is athletic, A.G. is athletic and I don’t think we’d lose anything on the rebounding end. I look forward to seeing that [lineup] more.

The scribe also notes that Isaac, while famously raw as a 20-year-old, 210-pound forward, could still be utilized as a defensive specialist for the Magic in his first year in the pros. “He’s NBA-ready to come in and impact our team on the defensive end right now,” Vogel said.

That lineup would be even better if we had an all star PG.

Sure, but he is facilitating this "new" style of Orlando Magic basketball.  I hope it only improves.  They definitely gel better in a short period of time.  New management has intelligently created a team that flow well together.

That lineup should generate plenty of opportunities for offensive rebounds

Yeah.  I think it gives insight into what the rotation might be

Payton - Fournier - ross - Gordon - vucevic

In comes Simmons, Isaac, biyombo for Fournier, ross, vucevic.

In comes pg to be determined, wing to be determined for Payton and Gordon sliding Isaac to the 4.

Then back at starting lineup

Yeah definitely, just need roster upgrades to make that new style produce w's.

That lineup looks damn good defensively, but again the problem is NO FLOOR SPACING. Simmons can shoot, but he shot 29% from 3 last year and is a career 32% shooter there, and he's probably the best 3 point shooter on that lineup. If Biyombo's bum behind is going to be on the floor then we need to have shooters out there too or the offense will sink.

Isaac is the best shooter in that lineup.  Simmons is shooting 0%from three in a magic uniform

Regardless of who is the best shooter, the point remains that we lack spacing with that particular lineup.

yeah. it's why it can never be our primary lineup. In spurts I think it's fine though.
