This isn’t really a good metric to just look at players drafted at 8. I think you have to look at those taken in the 8-15 range. We aren’t just going to be chosing from 1 player, we will be picking 1 player but choosing from 5-7 players that are in that “range”.

Donnavan Mitchell—13

Devin Booker—13

Giannis-15

McCollum—10

Kemba—9

Thompson—11

Leonard—15

In most drafts theirs a good player in that range it’s more “could we identify from the group” and select the right one?

No, probably not. But I wouldn’t be against tying.

The problem is that you are looking at the best players drafted in that range. What you need to be looking at is average return around a draft spot. So is Gordon equivalent to the average drafted player around that spot? If you think he is, than I really don't know what to say to you.

Great! So are you ready to give up our FRP? Buddy was a rookie last season and on a cost controlled contract. Are you ready to trade Isaac, the next comparable? Galloway was probably salary relief, not sure what his hit was.

How does AG, who’s about to hit RFA, fit into any of the above?

Depends on the player. I'd do a top 3 protected if your talking about Kawhi, AD, or Porzingis.

AG is very valuable because he is a RFA. They could match up. If the market says he's not a max player, they can match whatever on a 22 year old who could turn into a allstar.

Look, you answered your own question and now your arguing against it. Your original question was why would a team trade an all star for a player that wasn't. P4TW asked why would LA trade Blake for two non all stars. Your answer? Salary cap relief. Doesn't matter why. Teams trade all stars for non all stars for many reasons. Maybe the all star is disgruntled and wants out. Maybe he wants a change of scenery. Maybe they're a treadmill team that wants to go back to the drawing board. WTF cares why?

18.9 ppg potential all star scorer

18.5 ppg not worth paying.  Gotcha

Yea if only raw ppgs told the whole story. They are so different as players you couldn’t have picked a worse example.

Lavine is potential all star just with his scoring.

Dunn is a sophomore and playing much better than last season. Pick 7 is LM.

What’s the common theme here? Picks and cheap talent. AG is about to get expensive.

But he's not an all star and no one knows what AG is about to get. Teams may not max him out. There's a good chance of that.

BUT HE'S NOT AN ALL STAR. YOUR WHOLE ARGUMENT WAS WHY WOULD A TEAM TRADE AN ALL STAR FOR AN NON ALL STAR.

WTH hell man

Yep, agreed. Gordon is a much more well rounded player.

Let’s take a step back. In all those trades you mentioned the team with the all star was heavily compensated for it. AG by his lonesome isn’t going to net a similar package. Prepare to give up a FRP and other cost controlled players like Isaac too.

Yeah but see since Gordon is not an all star but LaVine is also not an all star, LaVine is more sought after.
